Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hunt (ranked 951 p4p, 27 weight class) and Jimi Powell (ranked 1455 p4p, 39 weight class). Powell has chosen 8 Mile as his entrance music. Jimi Powell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
28 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

22 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimi Powell!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunt throws a quick inside leg kick.
Powell misses the body punch
and Hunt connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Powell shoots in for a takedown but Hunt shows good takedown defense.
Jimi Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Powell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hunt swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hunt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hunt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Powell's guard.

Hunt seems to be looking for submissions.

Hunt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hunt goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Powell is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Hunt wants to stand and escape but instead Powell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Hunt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Hunt counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Hunt buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Powell lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Hunt tries for a kimura but Powell is defending well.
Hunt goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Powell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hunt but great work by Powell.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hunt throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Powells head.

Powell tries to throw a body punch but Hunt avoids it by throwing Powell back against the cage.

A nice right hand lands inside from Powell.
Hunt works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Powell changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hunt fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Matt Hunt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimi Powell.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Powell has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Hunt seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Powell can turn it around.
Hunt blocks a body shot from Powell.
Hunt tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Powell avoids it.
Powell is looking for a takedown.
Hunt with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Powell is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matt Hunt.
I think Hunt has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
