PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lee Nunez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricky Padilla will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Nunez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricky Padilla!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Padilla clinches.

Nunez lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Padilla looking to control.
Nunez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Padilla looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nunez is one step ahead there.
Nunez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Padilla is working an open guard so Nunez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nunez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Padilla rushes Nunez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Padilla can't break the clinch.
Nunez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Padilla pulls his leg out and moves away.

Padilla lands a left and a right that send Nunez crashing to the mat, dazed. Padilla thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Lee Nunez has been cut.

Padilla forces Nunez back against the cage and clinches.
Padilla is trying to force a seperation but Nunez has the dominant position.
Nunez avoiding damage.
Nunez has Padilla pressed against the cage, preventing Padilla from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Nunez tightens his grip and picks Padilla up, before dumping him to the ground. Padilla manages to land in guard.

Padilla kicks Nunez off and gets to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Padilla tests Nunez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Padilla misses with a combination

and Nunez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Padilla's guard.

Padilla has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Nunez has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nunez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Padilla looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Nunez jumps into guard, dragging Padilla to the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nunez is on top in guard.

Padilla preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Nunez content to stall in guard here.

Nunez gets to his feet - Padilla follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nunez takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Some wild striking there from Padilla.
Nunez appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Padilla takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Padilla will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Padilla lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Padilla moves into the clinch successfully.
Padilla tries to break the clinch but Nunez is controlling the position.
Padilla has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nunez gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Nunez is standing up over Padilla. Padilla looks to escape but Nunez dives into side control.
Padilla looks winded!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Padilla wants to control but Nunez postures up.
Padilla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nunez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nunez controlling the position from side mount.

Nunez stands up.
Padilla misses with an uppercut

and Nunez counters by moving into the clinch.

Nunez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricky Padilla dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lee Nunez's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Padilla misses with a body kick.
Nunez is looking for a counter combo.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Padilla throws a sloppy head kick and Nunez moves out of range easily.
Padilla darts in looking for a takedown but Nunez gets double underhooks and turns Padilla into the cage.
Padilla darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Padilla has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Padilla uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Padilla fails with the takedown.
A head kick misses from Padilla.
Nunez appears to be looking for a big counter.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Padilla. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Padilla is breathing heavily.

and Nunez counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Padilla lands with a straight right. Nunez didn't see that one coming.
Padilla pulls out of a head kick attempt.
As Padilla looks to move away, Nunez throws a big counter combo but Padilla just gets out of the way.

Nunez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Padilla.
Padilla throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nunez's waist but Nunez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Padilla off to one side.
Lee Nunez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Padilla.
Padilla throws a head kick that misses.
Nunez wants to land a leg kick but Padilla is out of range.
Ricky Padilla seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nunez throws a sloppy head kick and Padilla moves out of range easily.
Padilla will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nunez tries to counter with a takedown but Padilla is quick to defend against it.

Nunez drives through and clinches with Padilla against the cage.

Padilla is looking to break free of the clinch but Nunez has double underhooks.

Nunez jumps into guard, dragging Padilla to the mat.

Nunez lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Padilla working for submissions but it's allowed Nunez to get to half guard.
Nunez is controlling the pace.
Nunez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Nunez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Nunez is working for a kimura but Padilla is defending it quite comfortably.
Padilla is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nunez scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nunez seems to be working for a kimura but Padilla defends the submission attempt.

Nunez wants to work for an arm triangle but Padilla is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's time! Nunez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Padilla has Nunez up against the cage in a clinch.
Padilla throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Nunez blocks it with crossed arms.

Padilla manages to break the clinch.

Nunez gets tackled into the cage by Padilla. Padilla maintains the clinch.
Padilla prevents a takedown attempt there.
Padilla tries to break free but Nunez pushes him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Padilla tries to pull guard but Nunez won't allow it.

Nunez gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Nunez working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Padilla wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Nunez is now in half guard.
Padilla tries to roll over but Nunez keeps him under control.
Nunez controlling the action here.

Nunez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Padilla defends it well.
Nunez prevents Padilla from improving his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Padilla is still trying to improve position.
Padilla takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nunez looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Nunez is controlling the pace.

Nunez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Padilla defends it well.

Nunez wants to work for an arm triangle but Padilla is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Nunez is working for a submission of some sort.
Padilla flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Nunez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Padilla with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nunez lands strikes from half guard.
Padilla wants to control but Nunez is keeping busy.

Nunez seems to be looking for submissions.
Nunez stalling.

Nunez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lee Nunez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nunez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
