TWGC 17 (135lbs, D2): Finals - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Rubens Charles and Chester Jones. Chester Jones told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the bantamweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 1 losses; Rubens Charles! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Chester Jones!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Jones darts in and clinches Charles up against the cage.
Charles tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Charles is trying to pull guard but Jones has him pressed against the cage.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Charles passes into half guard.
Jones moves into full guard.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Charles gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Charles defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Charles can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Charles swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jones passes Charles's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Charles takes the fight on points by 14 to 10.
A very excited looking Rubens Charles made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
