PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Mera (ranked 4489 p4p, 408 weight class) and Marco Polo (ranked 4065 p4p, 379 weight class). Polo has chosen On The Floor as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 20 - 1, fighting out of London, Jose Mera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Polo!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Polo leaves Mera with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Polo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mera to the mat! Mera manages to get full guard.

Mera is looking for a triangle but Polo pushes his legs off easily.

Mera escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Polo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Polo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mera is staying active underneath Polo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Polo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mera haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Polo pinned against the cage. Polo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mera is trying to drag Polo to the mat but Polo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Polo wants the takedown. Mera is fighting it off but Polo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mera's guard against the cage.

Marco Polo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Polo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Polo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mera napping and manages to drive through into side control!

You can see the frustration on Mera's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Polo lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mera down.
Polo is looking to take a break and control but Mera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Marco Polo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Polo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
