PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between God Fist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Larsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). God Fist has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, God Fist!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Larsen!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Topper Green and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Larsen looks for the body kick but Fist saw that one coming.
Larsen looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Fist moves out of range of the body kick from Larsen.
Fist avoids the head kick by Larsen.
A punch combination from Fist misses.
Larsen wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Larsen tries to land a body kick

so Fist counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fist is standing up over Larsen. Larsen looks to escape but Fist dives into side control.

Fist really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Fist is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Larsen has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fist is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Larsen will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Fist seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Larsen for as long as he can get away with.

Fist has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Larsen throws the kick towards the body but Fist avoids it.
Fist throws a series of punches but Larsen moves out of range.
Larsen is looking to slow Fist down with leg kicks.
Fist dives in and grabs Larsen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Larsen pushes down on Fist's head and hops out.
Larsen throws a counter combo.
Fist throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Larsen jabs at Fist's body.
Larsen swats away the attempt to clinch by Fist.
Larsen moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Larsen throws a head kick but Fist moves out of range.
Fist takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Larsen throws a sloppy head kick and Fist moves out of range easily.
Fist changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Fist shoots in but no luck this time.
Fist shoots in but Larsen avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for God Fist. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sloppy strikes from Larsen. Those never looked like landing.
Fist went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Fist misses with a jab, cross combination.
Larsen misses with a head kick.

Fist darts in and clinches Larsen up against the cage.
Fist misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Larsen.
Fist is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Larsen to keep the fight standing.
Larsen trying to stall but Fist improves his position.
Larsen is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Fist is keeping busy.

Larsen swings wildly with an uppercut but Fist uses good head movement to avoid it.
Fist wants a takedown.
Fist tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Fist is breathing heavily.
Larsen throws a knee to the head but misses.
Larsen is trying to pull guard but Fist turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Larsen throws a knee to the head but misses.
Larsen is trying to maintain a safe position but Fist gets an underhook and turns Larsen into the cage.
Larsen throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Fist blocks it with crossed arms.
Fist is working for takedown but Larsen is calmly controlling the position for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Martin Larsen will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Fist rushes Larsen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Fist scores with a nice hook to the head.
Larsen using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Fist has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fist.

Fist breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Fist feints and as Larsen raises his hands in defense, Fist changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fist slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Fist's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Larsen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fist. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fist drops back looking for a leg! Larsen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Larsen manages to kick Fist off! Fist jumps back into Larsen's guard.
Fist is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fist will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fist wants to pass the guard but Larsen is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Larsen is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fist.
Larsen scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Fist doesn't seem bothered though.
Fist slips a jab from Larsen.
Fist takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Larsen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fist moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Larsen keeps the fight on the outside.
Larsen feints the counter takedown.
No joy there for Larsen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fist attempts a counter takedown but Larsen avoids it well and moves away.
Larsen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Larsen is breathing heavily.

Fist clinches.

Fist tries to work over Larsen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Fist goes for a takedown attempt but Larsen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Fist shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Larsen defends it nicely.
Larsen throws a big counter head kick but Fist avoids it with no problem.
Fist on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Fist manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Larsen on his heels. He'll look to pass Larsen's guard now, I'm sure.
Larsen is looking to stand back up but Fist counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Larsen.

Larsen is trying to stand back up but Fist is controlling him
Fist is looking to advance position but Larsen won't allow it.
Larsen is trying to maintain the position but Fist is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fist is looking for a kimura here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

God Fist dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Larsen misses with a kick to the body.
Fist throws a big shot that misses.
Larsen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Larsen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fist.
Martin Larsen seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Fist throws a body shot but no joy.

Larsen throws a sloppy head kick and Fist moves out of range easily.
Larsen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fist shoots in looking for a takedown. Larsen tries to sprawl out of it but Fist keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Larsen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fist shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for God Fist. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Larsen lands with a thumping leg kick.
Fist tries to score a power double leg takedown but Larsen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fist somewhat.

Fist shoots in for a takedown but Larsen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Larsen lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Larsen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Fist takes the fight into the clinch.

Larsen tries a body shot but Fist blocks it.
Larsen keeps control of Fist as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Larsen with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Fist jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Larsen walks away with a smile on his face. Fist gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Larsen misses with a looping right.
A head kick misses from Larsen.
Larsen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fist paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fist is looking to counter with a body kick.

Fist closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Larsen's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fist chips away with some ground and pound.
Fist throws a big right hand that misses.
Larsen keeping moving, preventing Fist from controlling successfully.
Larsen looking for a sweep. Not yet Larsen, not yet.
Fist is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Larsen is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Larsen leaves Fist with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A jab from Larsen does it's job there.
Larsen lands with a kick to the temple. Fist shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Fist fails to land the takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Larsen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Larsen.
Fist has a takedown stuffed.
Despite the aggression on Larsen's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

And that's the end of the fight!
Martin Larsen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Larsen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Martin Larsen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
