PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Khaliev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Holmes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khaliev comes to the cage accompanied by T-Wayne - Nasty Freestyle. Tim Holmes told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Adam Khaliev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tim Holmes!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khaliev gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Holmes trying to land knees to the body.
Holmes has had enough of the clinch but Khaliev keeps him there for the moment.
Holmes trying to control the position but instead, Khaliev has worked for underhooks and has pushed Holmes into the cage.
Khaliev displaying some good clinch control by pressing Holmes up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khaliev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Holmes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Khaliev looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Holmes bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Khaliev tries to work over Holmes's front leg with a kick but Holmes checks it.
As Khaliev backs off Holmes throws a huge counter combo but Khaliev manages to avoid it all.

Holmes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Khaliev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Holmes misses with a two punch combination.
Khaliev misses with a jab, cross combination.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Khaliev breaks from the clinch.
A punch combination from Holmes misses.
Holmes tries to clinch up.
Holmes misses with a wild combination.
A combination from Holmes does no damage.

Khaliev gets a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Holmes misses with a knee to the head.
Holmes misses with some punches.
Khaliev's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Holmes is trying to push Khaliev away but Khaliev has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Khaliev breaks from the clinch.
Nice shot lands for Khaliev.


It looks like Tim Holmes has been cut.
Khaliev misses with a jab, cross combination.
Khaliev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Holmes is looking for the big counter here.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Holmes.

Holmes moves into the clinch successfully.
Khaliev controlling the action here for a moment.

Khaliev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Holmes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Khaliev is stalling in the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Holmes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Holmes wants to control but Khaliev passes easily into half guard.
Khaliev passes to side control.

Khaliev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holmes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Holmes is trying to improve his position.

Khaliev tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Khaliev dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tim Holmes's cut.
That's time! Khaliev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Holmes tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Holmes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Khaliev connects with a right hand. Holmes shakes it off.
Adam Khaliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khaliev throws a right hand that Holmes ducks under and follows up with a left that Holmes also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Khaliev, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Holmes gets tackled into the cage by Khaliev. Khaliev maintains the clinch.
Holmes tries a knee to the head but Khaliev blocks it.
Khaliev is struggling to control the position.
Holmes is trying to force a seperation but Khaliev has the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khaliev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Holmes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Khaliev.

Holmes shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Holmes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Khaliev keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Holmes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Khaliev looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Holmes wants to free his trapped foot but Khaliev is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Holmes trying to control the pace.

Holmes decides to return to a standing position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A head kick by Khaliev misses
and Holmes counters with a good, hard body kick but Khaliev shrugs it off.
Holmes misses with a kick to the body.
Khaliev connects with a looping right hand.
Khaliev dances in with a quick combination. Holmes is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Khaliev snaps Holmes's head back. Holmes stumbles backwards against the cage. Khaliev steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Holmes's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Holmes just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Adam Khaliev!
