PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thatcher Halverson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikhail Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halverson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Enter Sandman. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mikhail Kalashnikov!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalashnikov has a takedown stuffed.
Kalashnikov shoots in for a takedown but Halverson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kalashnikov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Halverson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kalashnikov somewhat.
Thatcher Halverson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mikhail Kalashnikov.

We've been hearing good reports from Halverson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Halverson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kalashnikov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close round but I would say that Thatcher Halverson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kalashnikov connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Halverson momentarily.

Halverson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Halverson loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Kalashnikov scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Halverson land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Halverson stands and salutes the crowd.
