PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Gilmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Godofredo Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Godofredo Ruiz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Gilmore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Godofredo Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilmore goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ruiz lands a glancing blow to the side of Gilmore's head.
Gilmore takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Ruiz misses with a left hand

and Gilmore counters with a takedown into side control.
Ruiz avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gilmore.
Gilmore is looking to take a break and control but Ruiz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gilmore lands an elbow.
Gilmore throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Ruiz tries to escape but Gilmore is in control.

Gilmore tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gilmore trying to control the position but Ruiz is working away.
Ruiz tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Ruiz defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gilmore.

Gilmore looking to secure an arm triangle but Ruiz defends it well.
Ruiz is bucking up trying to escape but Gilmore cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Gilmore can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ruiz is looking to escape.

Gilmore is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruiz has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Gilmore looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gilmore thowing shots but they're missing.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ruiz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gilmore takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gilmore throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ruiz because Gilmore loaded up on that one.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ruiz just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromGilmore.
Ruiz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

and Ruiz counters with a nice uppercut.
Gilmore takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Ruiz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gilmores jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Gilmore tries to clinch but Ruiz is having none of it.

That kick from Gilmore tenderised Ruiz's leg. Ruiz is trying to keep his angry face on.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ruiz takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Good exchange - Ruiz coming out on top.
Ruiz throws a shot from downtown. Gilmore moves away and avoids it.
Gilmore appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Gilmore fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Gilmore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gilmore moves forwards but Ruiz connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Gilmore with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Ruiz to score with a decent uppercut.
Godofredo Ruiz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Godofredo Ruiz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gilmore takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Ruiz might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Ruiz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gilmore.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gilmore wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Gilmore fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Ruiz checks it well.
Ruiz throws a hook but Gilmore blocks it.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gilmore shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruiz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gilmore's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Godofredo Ruiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Gilmore shoots in and drives through. Ruiz sprawls well.
Gilmore walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Gilmore tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ruiz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gilmore somewhat.

Gilmore moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Ruiz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gilmore throws a push kick but Ruiz slaps the foot to one side.
Gilmore tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ruiz defends well and Gilmore ends up having to push Ruiz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Gilmore's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ruiz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Gilmore scrambles back to his feet.

Gilmore takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Ruiz's corner calls for a 1-2. Ruiz obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ruiz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gilmore under the eye.
Gilmore fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Ruiz manages to avoid it.

Ruiz dips to his left and cracks Gilmore with an uppercut!

Gilmore is looking to chop away at Ruiz's legs.
Gilmore takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Godofredo Ruiz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ruiz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Godofredo Ruiz rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
