PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asko Hutila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Teller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Asko Hutila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pat Teller!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hutila closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hutila lands in his opponent's guard.

Teller manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Hutila prevents the takedown attempt.
Hutila is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Hutila blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Hutila jumps guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Teller is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Teller uses his free foot to push down on Hutila's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hutila.
Hutila tries to hold on but Teller pushes him away.

Teller stops Hutila from getting back to his feet.
Hutila knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Teller on the ground.
Teller thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Teller is looking for a kimura but Hutila is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Teller to get the leverage.

Hutila works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Teller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hutila swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hutila working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Teller doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Teller manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Teller thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Teller shoots in looking for a takedown but Hutila manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Teller's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Teller tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hutila shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Teller sprawls well. Teller wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hutila gets slowly back to his feet.

Hutila gets a clinch.

Teller ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Teller no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Teller has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Teller bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hutila's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Teller darts in looking for a takedown but Hutila gets double underhooks and turns Teller into the cage.

Teller takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Teller dives in for a single leg takedown but Hutila sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hutila dives in and grabs Teller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Teller pushes down on Hutila's head and hops out.

Asko Hutila has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pat Teller.
Hutila lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Teller circles away quickly and effectively.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Teller tries to counter with a clinch but Hutila shakes him off and moves away.
Hutila shoots in for a takedown but Teller shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Teller goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Hutila tries to close the distance and clinch up but Teller swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Teller stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Teller wants it to stay on the feet.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Teller lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hutila has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hutila and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

It looked like Hutila was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Teller.
Asko Hutila has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pat Teller is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
