PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Florencio Short (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Magsayo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Florencio Short!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marco Magsayo!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Magsayo clinches up with Short and pushes him back against the cage.
Magsayo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Short gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Magsayo drags the fight down to the ground.
Magsayo has Short pulled in close to control his posture.
Magsayo trying to keep a closed guard but Short is proving a slippery customer.

Magsayo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Short stacks Magsayo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Short!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Short with the ground and pound but Magsayo regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Magsayo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Short is aware though and is defending well.
Short postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Magsayo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Short defends it easily.
Magsayo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Short loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Magsayo clinches.
Magsayo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Short walks away with a smile on his face. Magsayo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Short really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Short gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Short kicks Magsayo off and gets to his feet.
Magsayo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Short shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Magsayo but Magsayo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round but I would say that Florencio Short will probably get the nod.

Magsayo shoots in for a takedown but Short shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Short throws a push kick but Magsayo slaps the foot to one side.
And Magsayo tries to counter it with a takedown but Short pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Magsayo dives in and grabs Short's left leg, looking for a takedown. Short pushes down on Magsayo's head and hops out.

Short keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Magsayo's efforts to push away.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Magsayo.
As Magsayo backs away, Short returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Magsayo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Short, pushing him back against the cage.
Magsayo dodges an elbow strike from Short.
Magsayo jumps guard but Short turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Magsayo is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Horrible takedown attempt by Magsayo or perhaps it was just good defense by Short, which made it look bad.
Short tries to counter by clinching up but Magsayo breaks away and moves out of range.
Magsayo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Short as he jumps to the side.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Short appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Marco Magsayo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Magsayo jumps guard and drags Short to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Magsayo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Florencio Short.
