PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lawerence Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weber has chosen Pumped Up Kicks as his entrance music. Lawerence Reilly has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lawerence Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Weber!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A solid leg kick lands there for Weber.
Weber throws a lazy head kick

and Reilly holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Reilly stops a takedown attempt from Weber.
Reilly goes for a takedown attempt but Weber pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Weber shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reilly but Reilly pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Weber misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lawerence Reilly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Weber.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Reilly counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Weber decides to pull guard.

Reilly drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Weber manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Reilly has Weber in his guard.

Weber must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Weber prevents Reilly from getting back to his feet.
Reilly trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Weber postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reilly is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Reilly holds on and takes a little breather.
Reilly will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Reilly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Weber wants to control from the top but Reilly keeps moving.
Reilly seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Reilly wants to sweep here but Weber controlling him for the moment.

Reilly pushes Weber off and gets back to his feet.

Weber breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jake Weber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Weber shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reilly sprawls well. Reilly wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Weber gets slowly back to his feet.

That was a close round but I would say that Lawerence Reilly will probably get the nod.

Weber shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Reilly as he avoids it easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Weber is defended easily by Reilly.

Reilly gets tackled into the cage by Weber. Weber maintains the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reilly tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Weber smiles and moves away.
Weber goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Weber clinches.

Weber breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Weber fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Reilly avoids it really well and circles away.
Lawerence Reilly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Weber.
Weber throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Reilly's waist but Reilly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Weber off to one side.

Weber gets in close and instigates a clinch.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Reilly manages to pull guard.

Reilly working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Weber doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Weber manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Weber won't allow Reilly to get back to his feet.

Reilly has his foot on Weber's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Weber works his way back into a safe position though.

Reilly wants to get back to his feet but Weber is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Reilly really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Reilly is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Reilly is trying to control the position but Weber postures up.
Weber postures up in Reilly's guard and throws a big left but Reilly blocks it.

Weber thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Weber moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Weber gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Weber tries to pull guard but Reilly forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Weber gets underhooks to prevent Reilly's takedown attempt.

Weber manages to break the clinch.

Reilly tries to keep at a distance but Weber has taken the fight into the clinch.

Weber breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Reilly wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Jake Weber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Weber darts in and clinches Reilly up against the cage.
Reilly tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Weber wants to take the fight to the mat but Reilly manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Reilly jumps guard but Weber turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Reilly jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Weber walks away with a smile on his face. Reilly gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lawerence Reilly. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Weber takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Reilly is working Weber over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Reilly stands and steps away. Weber gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Weber fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Reilly has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Weber dives in for a single leg takedown but Reilly sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lawerence Reilly showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Reilly has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
