Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yuval Shmuly!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shmuly shoots in but Sampson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Shmuly moves into the clinch.
Shmuly prevents the takedown attempt.
Sampson really is a fat lump.
Sampson looking for a takedown.
Shmuly will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Sampson up against the cage.
Shmuly keeps control of Sampson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Shmuly prevents Sampson from breaking the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sampson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shmuly is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Shmuly throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Drew Sampson has been cut.

Sampson tries to keep at a distance but Shmuly has taken the fight into the clinch.

Shmuly escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yuval Shmuly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shmuly gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sampson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Shmuly gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Shmuly prevents a body shot from Sampson.
Shmuly goes for a takedown attempt but Sampson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Shmuly creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sampson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Shmuly with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Sampson is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Shmuly manages to pull guard.
Sampson is fighting to break Shmuly's control of his arms but Shmuly is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sampson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Shmuly pulls Sampson in close to prevent any damage.
Shmuly wants to stand but Sampson is controlling the position.

Sampson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Shmuly is pulling down on Sampson's head to control his posture.

Shmuly has his foot on Sampson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sampson works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sampson tries to pull guard but Shmuly won't allow it.
Sampson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shmuly pulls his leg out and moves away.
Shmuly thumps Sampson with a low kick.

Shmuly darts in and clinches Sampson up against the cage.
Shmuly gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sampson.

Shmuly jumps into guard, dragging Sampson to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Shmuly clinches with his opponent.
Sampson tries to stall but Shmuly uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Sampson can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Shmuly escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sampson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sampson tries to close the distance and clinch but Shmuly swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sampson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Shmuly manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Shmuly shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sampson as he avoids it easily.

As Shmuly looks to move away, Sampson throws a big counter combo but Shmuly just gets out of the way.

Sampson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Shmuly defends well and Sampson ends up having to push Shmuly into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Shmuly is pressed up against the cage. Sampson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shmuly down to the mat. Shmuly avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sampson moves forwards but Shmuly connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Sampson leaves Shmuly with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Shmuly shoots for a double leg takedown but Sampson sprawls well. He's pushed Shmuly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Well Shmuly has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
