PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Leigh Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Schuler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leigh Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Schuler!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Rush looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Schuler throws a lazy head kick

and Rush counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rush.
Schuler is pulling down on Rush's head. It's preventing any offense from Rush, at least for the moment.
Schuler looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rush puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Schuler should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Schuler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rush is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Schuler is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Schuler has escaped and now he's on top!

Rush will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rush really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Schuler has Rush pulled in close to control his posture.
Schuler tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Schuler utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rush is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Rush won't allow Schuler to sweep him here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rush is looking to clinch but Schuler is avoiding it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rush tries to clinch there but Schuler circles away.
Rush shoots in looking for a takedown. Schuler tries to sprawl out of it but Rush keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schuler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rush is looking to clinch but Schuler is avoiding it.
Schuler pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Rush blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Schuler has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rush is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Rush manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Schuler trying to control the position from guard on top but Rush is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Schuler connects with a couple of short punches.
Schuler throws an elbow that misses. Rush uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Schuler's guard. Nice move by Rush!

Rush wants to control from the top but Schuler keeps moving.

Rush drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schuler manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rush has Schuler in his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Schuler postures up and lands a big shot to Rush's brow.
Schuler is fighting to break Rush's control of his arms but Rush is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Schuler makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Schuler's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Schuler stands up over Rush, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Schuler postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Schuler shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Schuler was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

David Schuler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rush fails with an attempt to clinch.
Schuler stuffs the takedown.
Schuler misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Schuler stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Schuler wants it to stay on the feet.
Schuler takes a swing at Rush's ribcage but misses.

and Rush counters with a shoot takedown. Schuler fights it but they end up in guard.

Schuler has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Rush has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Schuler misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rush.
Rush throws an elbow that misses.

Rush throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rush with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Rush is trying to drag Schuler to the mat but Schuler just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leigh Rush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Come on Schuler - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Rush using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Schuler has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

David Schuler is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Leigh Rush.
I think Schuler has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
