PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jax Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Lock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan Lock will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jax Long!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ryan Lock!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Long.
Long looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Long stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Long wants it to stay on the feet.
Long shoots in for a double leg but Lock sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lock pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Long seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Lock throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Long's waist but Long gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lock off to one side.
Lock misses with a series of wild punches.
Lock shoots in but no luck this time.
Jax Long has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Lock.
Lock darts in looking for a takedown but Long gets double underhooks and turns Lock into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Long moves out of range of the body kick from Lock.

Long tries to keep at a distance but Lock has taken the fight into the clinch.

Lock jumps guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lock is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Long postures up in Lock's guard and throws a big left but Lock blocks it.

Long has gone for a leg lock! Lock slips out almost immediately though and dives into Long's guard.

Lock controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Lock stands and steps away. Long gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Long throws a wild body kick that Lock sees coming a mile off.
Lock shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lock closes the distance and clinches.
Lock looking for a takedown.

Lock drags the fight down to the ground.
Lock keeping moving, preventing Long from controlling successfully.
Long looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Lock has Long pulled in close to control his posture.

Lock has his foot on Long's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Long works his way back into a safe position though.
Lock pulls Long in close to prevent any damage.

Lock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Long defends it easily.
Lock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Lock has his feet on Long's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Long throws a leg kick which misses Lock's front leg but catches the back leg as Lock tries to avoid it.

Lock clinches.
Lock is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Long gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Lock gets control of Long's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lock will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Lock bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Long's guard.

Lock looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Lock dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Long stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Long wants it to stay on the feet.
Lock goes for a double leg but Long avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Long continues to drive forward.
Long fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lock avoids it really well and circles away.
Long tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lock manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lock misses with a few strikes there.

Lock closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lock is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lock pulls guard successfully.

Lock scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Lock fails with a takedown attempt.
Jax Long has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Lock.

Lock rushes Long and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Lock controlling the action here for a moment.
Lock throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Lock pulls Long into guard.
Long has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Lock keeping moving, preventing Long from controlling successfully.

Lock has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Long off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Lock instigates a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lock can't get the takedown.

Lock is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Long gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Lock breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Long misses with a low kick.
Lock shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Long as he avoids it easily.

Lock gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Long working hard to break the clinch.
Long looking to stall.
Lock has Long pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Long manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Long tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Lock drags the fight down to the ground.

Lock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lock is trying to control the position but Long postures up.
Long trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Lock uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Lock works Long's body with a nice hook.
Lock misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lock moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Lock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Long defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lock.
Lock misses with a takedown attempt - Long sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Long throws a sloppy head kick and Lock moves out of range easily.
Lock is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Long shoots in but no luck this time.

Lock has taken the fight to the clinch.

Lock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Long uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lock seems keen to control Long's posture.

Long is trying to maintain a safe position but Lock gets an underhook and turns Long into the cage.

Lock pulls guard successfully.

Lock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Long gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Long wants to control from the top but Lock keeps moving.
Lock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lock is on top in guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lock forces his way into half guard.

Lock is looking for a kimura here.
Long is looking for a sweep. Lock is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lock with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lock has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lock controlling from the full mount.
Long on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Long tries to get out of the position.
Lock misses with a head shot.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lock goes for an armbar but Long turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Long.
Jax Long has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ryan Lock is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lock wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Ryan Lock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Lock winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
