PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendall Mohr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kendall Mohr!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mohr takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Velasquez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mohr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Mohr shoots in looking for a takedown but Velasquez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mohr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Velasquez seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Mohr misses the body punch
and Velasquez counters with a left and a right that stings Mohr.
Velasquez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Mohr counters with a nice uppercut.
Velasquez moves away from the strike by Mohr.
Mohr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Velasquez attempts a counter takedown but Mohr avoids it well and moves away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mohr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Velasquez dodges the punch combination from Mohr.
Mohr lands with a hook. Velasquez tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mohr. Velasquez does a little dance to reset his feet.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Mohr takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Mohr has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Velasquez is trying to break the clinch but Mohr is controlling him.
Velasquez fails to pull the fight into his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Velasquez wants to control from the top but Mohr keeps moving.
Mohr wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mohr is on top in guard.

Mohr throws an overhand right that lands on Velasquez's shoulder, as Velasquez tries to avoid the shot.

It looked like Velasquez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velasquez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mohr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've been informed that Mohr has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mohr working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mohr stalks Velasquez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Velasquez's face. Velasquez staggers backwards, shaken.
Velasquez throws a right and a left that Mohr avoids nicely.
Velasquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mohr sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Velasquez swinging wildly here.
Mohr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mohr stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lazy left from Velasquez finds it's target.
Velasquez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mohr moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mohr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Velasquez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mohr circles away quickly and effectively.

Velasquez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

A nice side step and Mohr releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Velasquez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Mohr throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Velasquez.
Kendall Mohr seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Velasquez's corner calls for a 1-2. Velasquez obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Velasquez takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Velasquez checks a leg kick.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mohr scores with a one two! Velasquez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

and Velasquez counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mohr is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Velasquez rather than just go for the knockout.

Mohr shoots for a takedown but Velasquez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mohr is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Velasquez with a body shot.

letting Mohr counter with a right hand.

Cain Velasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mohr's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mohr has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mohr sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Velasquez's guard.
Velasquez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mohr works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mohr missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Mohr stalling away here and it's allowed Velasquez to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Velasquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mohr on the ground.

Kendall Mohr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mohr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
