PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damian Brooks (ranked 1406 p4p, 187 weight class) and Gurgen Davidyan (ranked 1162 p4p, 152 weight class). Brooks's entrance music is Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy. A fine choice. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damian Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Gurgen Davidyan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and James Atkins.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Davidyan avoids it really well and circles away.
Davidyan stuffs the takedown.
Davidyan takes one to the chin there.

Brooks gets the takedown into side control.
Brooks wants to control but Davidyan is keeping him busy.
Brooks tries to move to mount but Davidyan blocks the move with his legs.
Brooks postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brooks remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Davidyan has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Davidyan parries the strikes from Brooks easily there. Brooks is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Davidyan to escape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Brooks with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Davidyan to score with a decent uppercut.

Brooks lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Brooks shoots for a double leg takedown but Davidyan sprawls well. He's pushed Brooks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Brooks moves into the clinch.
Brooks has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Davidyan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Brooks tightens his grip and picks Davidyan up, before dumping him to the ground. Davidyan manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brooks is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Our sources have told us that Brooks has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Brooks is pushing Davidyan up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Davidyan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Davidyan misses with a punch to the body.
Davidyan misses with a hook to the ribs.

Brooks blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Davidyan swings wildly with an uppercut but Brooks uses good head movement to avoid it.

Davidyan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Brooks drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
What's Davidyan going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Damian Brooks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brooks is trying to get an arm triangle but Davidyan is defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brooks's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Gurgen Davidyan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Brooks has hold of one of Davidyan's legs. Davidyan is fighting the takedown attempt but Brooks gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

and Davidyan counters with a nice uppercut.

Brooks shoots in looking for a takedown. Davidyan tries to sprawl out of it but Brooks keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Davidyan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Brooks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Davidyan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Brooks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Davidyan's waist but Davidyan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brooks off to one side.
Davidyan throws out a counter right but Brooks avoids it with no problem.
Brooks shoots for a double leg takedown but Davidyan sprawls well. He's pushed Brooks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And Davidyan responds with a good body kick, but Brooks manages to step out the way in time.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
