PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cody Paris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Lau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Cody Paris has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Cody Paris seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cody Paris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Lau!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paris keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Paris loads up on a big right hand but Lau slips the punch.
Lau throws the left hand but Paris avoids the punch easily.
Paris changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Paris throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Lau avoids the body shot from Paris.
Lau shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Paris but Paris pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Lau uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Paris.
Lau misses with an uppercut
letting Paris counter with a right hand.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lau can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Paris controls the pace.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Lau is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Paris is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lau is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The strikes coming from Paris are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Paris tries to score with some ground and pound. Lau controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lau can do anything to dispel that myth.

Paris's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well Paris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
