PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Don Nelson (ranked 8117 p4p, 255 weight class) and Joe DeMarco (ranked 23766 p4p, 337 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Don Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe DeMarco!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
DeMarco is pushing Nelson up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Nelson can't find room to land a body shot as DeMarco controls the action.
DeMarco blocks a body shot from Nelson.
DeMarco blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
DeMarco holding his opponent close, against the ropes.
DeMarco is trying to push Nelson away but Nelson has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
DeMarco wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nelson has him pressed against the ropes.
DeMarco wants to break the clinch but can't.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
DeMarco dodges an elbow strike from Nelson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by DeMarco as Nelson tries to tie him up.

DeMarco wants to get back to striking at distance but Nelson won't allow it.
DeMarco works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Nelson can't find room to land a body shot as DeMarco controls the action.

DeMarco escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nelson is looking to clinch.
DeMarco let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
DeMarco connects with an inside leg kick.
DeMarco keeps the fight on the outside.

DeMarco rushes Nelson and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

DeMarco escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
DeMarco fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Nelson checks it well.
Nelson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from DeMarco.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from DeMarco, right into the meat.

Nelson instigates a clinch.

DeMarco breaks the clinch.

Nelson closes the distance and pushes DeMarco back into the ropes.
DeMarco avoiding damage as Nelson throws knees to the body.
DeMarco can't break the clinch.
DeMarco wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nelson has him pressed against the ropes.
DeMarco is trying to push Nelson away but Nelson has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
DeMarco wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Nelson trying to stall but DeMarco improves his position.
Nelson lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Nelson tries to land knees in the clinch but DeMarco avoids the damage to the body.
DeMarco wants to break free but Nelson has control.
Nelson struggles to land a body shot inside as DeMarco controls his hands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
DeMarco looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
DeMarco blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
A head punch on the inside from Nelson fails to land.
DeMarco told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
The fighters are pressed against the ropes, as the pace of the fight slows.

DeMarco's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A clash of legs there as Nelson blocks the low kick.
Nelson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nelson tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. DeMarco manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
DeMarco throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
DeMarco finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
DeMarco jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.


It looks like Don Nelson has been cut.

Nelson closes the distance and clinches.

DeMarco pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nelson tries to clinch up but DeMarco circles away and keeps his distance.
DeMarco looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
A head kick from DeMarco lands but Nelson takes it in his stride.
DeMarco keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe DeMarco dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Don Nelson's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


DeMarco lands a really nice looking cross but Nelson seems unphased.

DeMarco has Nelson up against the ropes in a clinch.
Nelson looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Nelson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Nelson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from DeMarco.
DeMarco circles away from the clinch attempt.

Nelson clinches up with DeMarco and pushes him back against the ropes.
DeMarco is trying to break the clinch but Nelson has him pressed against the ropes.
Nelson misses with an elbow over the top.
Nelson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and DeMarco avoids it.
Nelson misses with a body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nelson lands a right hand.
DeMarco lands an uppercut.

DeMarco manages to break the clinch.
DeMarco lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nelson wants to clinch
and DeMarco counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
DeMarco works the jab nicely.
Nelson tries to get into range but DeMarco steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Nelson! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! DeMarco scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Joe DeMarco!
After the fight, Joe DeMarco was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
