Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mariano Watts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Aldridge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Mariano Watts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Aldridge!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldridge throws a left and a right that both miss

and Watts decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Aldridge's guard.
Aldridge wants to get back to his feet but Watts passes into half guard.

Aldridge is pressing down on Watts's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Aldridge avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Aldridge is adopting a defensive guard.
Watts has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Watts postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Watts accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Watts throws an elbow that misses. Aldridge uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Watts's guard. Nice move by Aldridge!

It looks like Aldridge might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Aldridge tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Watts manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Watts is looking to counter the offense by Aldridge and move into the clinch.
Aldridge moves in looking to clinch but Watts pushes him off.

Aldridge wants to stand and escape but instead Watts has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Aldridge is looking to stand up but Watts isn't so interested in that idea.

Watts could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Aldridge is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Aldridge is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Watts still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Watts has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Aldridge's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Aldridge avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Aldridge throws a right hand that Watts ducks under and follows up with a left that Watts also avoids with ease.

Watts has closed the distance and engaged Aldridge in a clinch.

Watts ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Watts no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Aldridge controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Aldridge wants to stand but Watts has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Watts is working an open guard so Aldridge takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mariano Watts will probably get the nod.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aldridge is looking for a sweep. Watts is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Aldridge wants to control from the top but Watts keeps moving.

Aldridge throws a strike but Watts rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Watts controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mariano Watts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Watts loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Watts avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Watts is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Aldridge has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Watts can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mariano Watts.
I think Watts has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
