PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Baumann (ranked 3123 p4p, 370 weight class) and Gregory Belcher (ranked 2977 p4p, 353 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Baumann might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bombs Over Baghdad. Gregory Belcher acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gregory Belcher!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belcher dives in for a single leg takedown but Baumann sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Baumann connects with a good right hand that stumbles Belcher. Belcher circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Belcher darts in looking for a takedown but Baumann gets double underhooks and turns Belcher into the cage.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Adam Baumann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Belcher.
Baumann cracks Belcher with an open hand slap.
Baumann lands a nice shot to the body.

Belcher closes this distance looking for a takedown but Baumann circles away.
Nice straight punches there by Baumann. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Baumann.
Belcher takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
We've been told by Baumann's head coaches at Cozad MMA Amsterdam that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Belcher takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Baumann drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Baumann jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Belcher has hold of Baumann's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Baumann manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Baumann here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Baumann drops back, looking for a kneebar! Belcher looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Belcher looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Belcher!

Belcher is looking to take a break and control but Baumann is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Belcher shoots and misses
and Baumann makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Baumann fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Baumann shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Belcher eats them both and turns towards Baumann to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Baumann makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Baumann.

Baumann is looking for a triangle but Belcher pushes his legs off easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Baumann escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Belcher gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Belcher is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Baumann is just riding it out for now. Belcher eventually gives up the hold.

Baumann is looking to cinch up a triangle. Belcher throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Baumann's body to avoid the submission. Baumann has instead reached around Belcher's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Baumann arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
