Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rodrick Shull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodrick Shull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Shull showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Shull stopping the sweep attempt from Smith.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is trying to control the position but Shull postures up.
Shull trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Smith being controlled here, momentarily.
Shull sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in half guard, Shull seems content to control.
Shull stops Smith from getting back to his feet.

Shull is pressing down on Smith's thigh, looking to free his foot. Smith is holding on for now.
Shull is working hard here to advance position.
Shull prevents Smith from standing back up.
Shull wants to pass to mount but Smith is defending the position.
Smith trying to hold on to Shull's head to control him but Shull postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Smith on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Smith tries to clinch but Shull is having none of it.
It looked like Shull was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Shull throws a hook but Smith blocks it.
Smith pushes Shull away with a front kick.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Shull ducks down to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shull slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith lands a head kick!

Smith closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shull quickly recovers to half guard.
Smith prevents Shull from improving his position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith wants to stand up but Shull is controlling the position.
Shull is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Shull is defending well.
Smith wants to stand up but Shull has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Smith wants to control but Shull is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shull works the jab nicely.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Smith.
The fighters circling - Shull throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Shull looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Shull pushes him off.
Shull appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Shull looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick
and Shull counters with a straight right hand.
Smith takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shull to the ground. Smith is now in Shull's guard.
Smith wants to stand but Shull has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Shull is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rodrick Shull will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Shull scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Smith drives through with a takedown into Shull's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Shull is looking to stand back up but Smith counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Shull.

Smith tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Shull.
Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shull wants to get back to full guard.
Smith wants to stand up but Shull has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Smith is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Shull manages to get to full guard.

Shull controlling the position.
Smith preventing the sweep.
Smith trying to control but Shull is working from the bottom.
Smith stops Shull from standing up.
Shull looking for a sweep. Not yet Shull, not yet.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith wants to stand but Shull is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shull looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Smith lands a big head kick that sends Shull tumbling to the mat! Smith takes a step backwards and waves Shull back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Shull is rocked!
Smith thumps Shull with a low kick.
Shull misses the shot to the body.

Smith throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Shull tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Smith is in Shull's guard.

Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shull is proving hard to escape from.
Smith postures up in Shull's guard and throws a big left but Shull blocks it.
Shull on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shull tries to get out of the position.

Shull keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Shull pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Smith is looking to stand up but Shull won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Shull moves out of range easily.
John Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Shull was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
John Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shull moves out of range as Smith throws a body kick.
Shull throwing a counter right hand but Smith manages to avoid it.
Good leg kick by Smith there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Smith takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Shull throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Smith tries to clinch up but Shull circles away and keeps his distance.
Smith throws a head kick that misses.
Smith cracks the inside of Shull's front leg.
A solid leg kick lands there for Smith.

Smith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shull keeping control of the position.
Shull is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Smith cracks the inside of Shull's front leg.
Smith misses with a wild combination.
Smith wants to clinch up but Shull keeps it at a distance.
Shull lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Smith looks to clinch
and Shull cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Shull slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
It looked like Shull was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Smith.
Shull lands a jab to Smith's midsection.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Shull staying out of range there.
Shull throwing a counter right hand but Smith manages to avoid it.
Shull cracks a nice hook into Smith's ribs.
Smith throws a leg kick but Shull moved away.
Shull lands a jab to the nose.

Smith fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Shull checks it well.
Shull swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Shull gets a takedown into half guard.
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.
Shull perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Shull trying to pass the guard but Smith defending well.
Smith is looking to escape.
Shull is looking to advance position but Smith won't allow it.
Smith tries to kick Shull off but Shull keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith wants to improve his position but Shull is controlling well.
Shull seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Shull chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
Smith throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Shull counters with a stiff right hand.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Shull moves out of range easily.
Smith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Smith tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Shull counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


Smith is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith throws a poor cross that misses
and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Shull finish him?
Shull scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Shull shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Smith is on queer street and Shull is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Rodrick Shull!
