PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gary Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gray Vincent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Bowman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gray Vincent!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vincent misses with a combination

and Bowman counters by moving into the clinch.

Vincent manages to break the clinch.
Vincent shoots in but Bowman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Vincent throws a lazy head kick
and Bowman counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Gray Vincent seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bowman shoots in and bounces Vincent off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bowman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vincent manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Vincent fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bowman pulls guard.
Vincent trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bowman's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bowman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vincent throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bowman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Vincent must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bowman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Vincent wants to stand but Bowman is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bowman pulls Vincent in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bowman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Bowman shoots in for a takedown but Vincent shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bowman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Vincent pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bowman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vincent sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bowman somewhat.

Bowman has closed the distance and engaged Vincent in a clinch.

Vincent's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bowman fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gary Bowman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vincent pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Bowman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vincent on his heels. He'll look to pass Vincent's guard now, I'm sure.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bowman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bowman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bowman chips away with some ground and pound.

Bowman scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Bowman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bowman lands a couple of digs.
Vincent really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bowman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Bowman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Vincent did well to prevent Bowman getting side control.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bowman connects with a nice short shot to Vincent's temple.

Vincent tries to kick Bowman off in order to stand up. Bowman Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bowman stands up and beckons Vincent to his feet.
Vincent throws a head kick that misses.

Bowman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vincent tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bowman is in Vincent's guard.
Vincent is looking to stand back up but Bowman counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Vincent.
Vincent is breathing heavily.

Vincent is trying to control but Bowman manages to pass to mount!
BOOM! Bowman connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Bowman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Vincent can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Bowman has hold of Vincent's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Vincent manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Vincent is bucking up trying to escape but Bowman cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bowman cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Bowman scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Bowman postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Vincent looks a forlorn figure.
Bowman lands a big shot there that rocks Vincent but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Bowman dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Bowman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Bowman has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Vincent avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Vincent is looking to get back to his feet here but Bowman is keeping cool and he's managed to take Vincent's back.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vincent is trying to get back to his feet but Bowman has full control of the position and if anything, Vincent has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bowman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
