The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michael leaves Alvarez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Michael feints a jab promting Alvarez to slip. Michael then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Alvarez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Michael moves into the clinch successfully.
Alvarez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Michael fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Alvarez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Michael counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Vance Michael has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricardo Alvarez.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Alvarez lands a shoulder strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Michael is defending well.

Alvarez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Michael avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Alvarez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Michael is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Alvarez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Alvarez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Michael scores with a couple of nice shots.
Michael takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Michael is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Michael content to control rather than advance.
Alvarez is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Michael scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Michael landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Michael tries to stand and escape but Alvarez is controlling the position.
Michael winds up and cracks Alvarez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Michael prevents Alvarez from improving his position.
Alvarez gets full guard.
Michael controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Alvarez is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Michael has his hands clasped together but Alvarez extends and breaks Michael's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Alvarez.
