PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kim Czang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kim Czang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Costa!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Czang shoots in but Costa avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Costa misses with a body kick.
Czang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Costa circles away.

Costa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Czang has his hands on Costa's head, controlling the position.
Czang is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Costa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Czang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Costa circles away.
Costa follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kim Czang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Costa misses with a double jab.

Costa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Costa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Costa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Costa throws a strike but Czang rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Costa isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Czang stacks Costa on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Czang!
Czang gets to mount! Costa was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Czang content just to control the position here.
Costa tries to hold on but Czang postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Costa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Czang shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Costa defends it nicely.

Costa forces Czang back against the cage and clinches.

Costa has Czang pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Costa pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Czang tumbling to the mat - Costa dives into Czang's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Costa pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Czang is keeping the position for now.
Czang controls Costa momentarily but Costa frees himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Czang has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Costa finds it's way round the side to connect with Czang's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Costa darts in trying to clinch

and Czang counters with a nice double leg into side control. Costa won't be happy with that.
Costa tries to improve position but can't.
Andre Costa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Czang has control of an arm but Costa manages to advance to Czang's back!
Costa scores with punches to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Costa not allowing Czang to control his hands.

Costa is looking for a choke. Czang gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Czang manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Costa is wriggling around but Czang manages to pass to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Costa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Costa is doing well to control the position and prevent Czang from advancing to side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Costa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Czang pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Costa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Czang is really struggling to control Costa but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Costa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Costa turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Costa manages to end up in side control.

Costa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Costa tries to advance to mount but can't.

Costa is trying to get an arm triangle but Czang is defending well.
Czang seems a little lost for a moment, as Costa dominates the positioning.
Czang wants to control but Costa postures up.

Costa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Czang is trying to escape the position but Costa is controlling the position.
Czang struggling a bit here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Costa looks to land a combination but Czang avoids it well.

Costa looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Czang is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Costa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Costa is working for a submission of some sort.
Czang is not content to let Costa control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andre Costa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Costa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
