The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruger takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Ruger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Carruthers swivels and escapes.
Ruger shoots in but Carruthers avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Carruthers throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ruger tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ruger checks a leg kick.
Carruthers lands a right hook to the body.
Ruger scores with a takedown into Carruthers's guard.
Carruthers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carruthers preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ruger trying to control but Carruthers is working from the bottom.
Ruger stops Carruthers from standing up.
Ruger working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Jimmy Carruthers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rex Ruger.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ruger.
Carruthers fires out a quick counter leg kick but Ruger just manages to avoid it.
Carruthers leaves Ruger with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carruthers is looking for a counter combo.

Ruger takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Ruger swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Carruthers is looking to stand back up but Ruger counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Carruthers.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ruger is trying to control. Carruthers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ruger takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ruger connects with a nice short shot to Carruthers's temple.

Carruthers is rocked!
Ruger scores with a big shot! Carruthers's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Carruthers! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
