Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Asa Sargent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimi Kuala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Asa Sargent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimi Kuala!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sargent has Kuala up against the cage in a clinch.
Sargent is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kuala pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sargent really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stalling in the clinch from Sargent.
Kuala is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Kuala has hold of one of Sargent's legs. Sargent is fighting the takedown attempt but Kuala gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Sargent can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kuala controls the pace.
Sargent will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kuala wants to control from the top but Sargent keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kuala is looking to pass into half guard but Sargent pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Sargent is in guard.

Let's hope that Kuala has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sargent avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kuala wants to control the position but Sargent says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kuala is doing well to control the position and prevent Sargent from advancing to side control.
Kuala wants to improve his position but Sargent is controlling well.
Sargent is thwarting Kuala's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sargent seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

We've been informed that Kuala has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Well, if Sargent is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sargent clinches up with Kuala and pushes him back against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kuala is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sargent can't fight it off and eventually Kuala manages to take the fight to the floor. Sargent looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Kuala drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Kuala tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kuala has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sargent knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kuala on the ground.

Kuala goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Sargent rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kuala's guard! Nice work there by Sargent!

Kuala bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sargent's guard.


Kuala postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sargent is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kuala, into his guard.

Kuala looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kuala is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kuala looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sargent passes into side control.

Kuala wants to control but Sargent postures up.
Sargent working the head and body with strikes.

Kuala pushes Sargent away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sargent gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Kuala is trying to control Sargent's posture but Sargent avoids it.
Jimi Kuala has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kuala is trying to improve his position.
Sargent wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kuala keeps working.
Kuala is looking to reverse the position.
Kuala is trying to control Sargent's posture but Sargent avoids it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kuala gets back to half guard.
Sargent is trying to control the action in half guard but Kuala is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sargent wants to clinch up but Kuala keeps it at a distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kuala closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Jimi Kuala showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Sargent tries to clinch but Kuala moves away

and Kuala counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kuala is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sargent sees it coming and defends easily.
Kuala throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Sargent is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kuala seems to be looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sargent gets back to full guard.
Kuala won't allow Sargent to sweep him here.

Sargent being controlled here, momentarily.
Sargent is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sargent is working hard here to advance position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sargent has his foot on Kuala's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kuala works his way back into a safe position though.
Kuala wants to control from the top but Sargent keeps moving.

Kuala trying to control but Sargent is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kuala trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kuala throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sargent gets caught napping as Kuala dives in and scores a takedown. Sargent manages to retain guard.
Kuala is pushing down on Sargent's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sargent is fighting to maintain full guard but Kuala has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sargent is staying active underneath Kuala, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kuala perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Kuala is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kuala uses his free foot to push down on Sargent's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sargent.

Kuala quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Kuala but it's paid off an Sargent is forced to tap! Nice work by Kuala.
