PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Carter (ranked 3645 p4p, 447 weight class) and Razor Ramon (ranked 6249 p4p, 651 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Razor Ramon!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Carter was well out of range. Poor timing from Ramon.
A counter left hand to the body from Carter misses its target.
Ramon looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
Carter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ramon.
Ramon takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Carter works over Ramon's head and body with a nice combination.
Ramon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ramon somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ramon walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Michael Carter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Carter lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ramon doesn't seem phased though.
Ramon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carter's waist but Carter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ramon off to one side.
Michael Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Razor Ramon.
Nice takedown defense from Carter. No joy for Ramon on that attempt.
Carter scores with a jab.
Carter lands a right hook to the body.
Ramon takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Carter stuffs the takedown.
Carter jabs Ramon to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Carter moves into the clinch.
Carter is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Carter is stalling here.
Carter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ramon backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ramon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Ramon decides to pull guard.
Carter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ramon can't keep his opponent in guard - Carter advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Carter content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Carter seems to be working for a kimura but Ramon defends the submission attempt.
Ramon is refusing to be controlled, as Carter sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ramon is looking to escape.
Ramon manages to get to full guard.
Carter is stalling in the full guard.

Ramon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ramon on the ground.
Ramon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carter controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carter drops back looking for a leg! Ramon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ramon manages to kick Carter off! Carter jumps back into Ramon's guard.
Carter trying to control but Ramon is working from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Ramon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ramon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Carter dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Carter lands a lovely overhand right.

Ramon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Carter managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ramon.
Carter regains half guard.
Carter is concentrating on defense, preventing Ramon from advancing position.
Carter gets back to full guard.
Carter has his hands on Ramon's head, controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ramon passes Carter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Carter tries to roll over but Ramon keeps him under control.
Carter wants to control but Ramon is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter is staying active underneath Ramon, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Carter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ramon pulls his head out easily.
Ramon is trying to control. Carter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carter is looking for a sweep. Ramon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ramon gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Ramon misses with a takedown attempt - Carter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ramon doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Carter looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ramon lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Carter thuds a left hand into Ramon's body.
Nice takedown defense from Carter. No joy for Ramon on that attempt.
Michael Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Razor Ramon.
Carter lands a body shot.
Ramon is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter drops Ramon with a huge uppercut! Ramon drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Carter is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Carter!
In his post fight interview, Michael Carter started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
