PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronald Fredrick (ranked 4574 p4p, 595 weight class) and Kyrie Perry (ranked 5969 p4p, 702 weight class). Fredrick comes to the cage accompanied by Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz: Throw It Up. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronald Fredrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyrie Perry!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry swinging wildly here.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fredrick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Fredrick definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fredrick shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Perry as he jumps to the side.
Fredrick misses with a body kick.
Perry swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Fredrick.


It looks like Ronald Fredrick has been cut.
Perry rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fredrick moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Fredrick tries to clinch but Perry is having none of it.
A little jabbing left from Perry on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Fredrick takes one on the button.
Fredrick looks to clinch
and Perry counters with a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fredrick scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fredrick creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Perry sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Perry is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Fredrick is controlling him well.

Fredrick wants to control but Perry is keeping him busy.
Fredrick is really struggling to control Perry but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Fredrick tries to advance to mount but can't.

Fredrick has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Perry jabs Fredrick to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Perry throws a combination that misses
and Fredrick counters with a straight right hand.
Fredrick has a takedown stuffed.
Fredrick darts in looking for a takedown but Perry gets double underhooks and turns Fredrick into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronald Fredrick. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Perry lands with a straight right. Fredrick didn't see that one coming.
Nice jab there from Perry.
Perry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Perry wants it to stay on the feet.
Perry moves out of range of the body kick.
Perry lands a lovely overhand right.
Fredrick tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Perry swivels and escapes.
Fredrick takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fredrick misses with a low kick as Perry jumps back.
Perry lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Perry scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Perry cracks Fredrick with a big right hand and Fredrick goes down!


Fredrick is rocked!
Perry trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fredrick's guard.
Perry won't allow Fredrick to sweep him here.
Perry wants to stand but Fredrick is controlling his posture from full guard.

Fredrick looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Perry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fredrick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Perry wants to get up but he can't break Fredrick's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Fredrick wants to sweep here but Perry controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Perry wanted to stand there but Fredrick had control of the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fredrick is on top in guard.

Fredrick won't allow Perry to get back to his feet.
Fredrick is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Perry wants to stand but Fredrick is controlling the position.
Fredrick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perry swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyrie Perry dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ronald Fredrick's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Fredrick fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A lazy left from Perry finds it's target.
Fredrick takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fredrick misses with a body kick.

Oooh a lovely combination from Perry sends Fredrick down but not out. Perry dives into side control looking to finish.
Oh Fredrick is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perry tries to stand but Fredrick is controlling his head.
Fredrick seems to have got his legs back now.
Ronald Fredrick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fredrick struggling a bit here.
Fredrick is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Perry is controlling him well.
Fredrick tries to buck Perry off but Perry is having none of it.

Fredrick manages to get back to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Perry is going to stand back up.
Perry is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Fredrick slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Perry gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fredrick fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Fredrick tries to clinch but Perry is having none of it.
Fredrick gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Perry.
Perry cracks a nice hook into Fredrick's ribs.
Ronald Fredrick is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Perry lands with an overhand left.
Fredrick tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Perry manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A little jabbing left from Perry on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Perry throws a series of punches but Fredrick avoids them all with ease.
Fredrick shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kyrie Perry is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fredrick drops down looking for a counter takedown but Perry sprawls and moves away.
Kyrie Perry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Perry counters with a straight right hand.
Perry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perry misses the shot to the body.

Perry lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.


Ronald Fredrick's cut is getting worse.
Perry ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fredrick moves away.
Fredrick fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fredrick fails with the takedown.
Perry scores with a three punch combo!
Perry swats away the attempt to clinch by Fredrick.
Perry lands a jab to Fredrick's midsection.

Fredrick darts in looking for a takedown but Perry gets double underhooks and turns Fredrick into the cage.
Fredrick on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Perry scores with a shot to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by Perry as he connects with a hook.
Perry connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Fredrick momentarily.
Perry is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Fredrick hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!

A victorious Kyrie Perry thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
