PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronaldo Alves (ranked 4722 p4p, 165 weight class) and Ivor Colde (ranked 5103 p4p, 181 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ronaldo Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ivor Colde!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.

Alves closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Colde to the mat! Colde manages to get full guard.
Alves won't allow Colde to sweep him here.
Alves slips nicely into half guard.
Alves thows a huge punch but Colde dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Colde is concentrating on defense, preventing Alves from advancing position.
Alves not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Alves is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Colde throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Alves manages to pass to side control.
Colde takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Alves trying to control the action but Colde is working from the bottom.
Colde felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Colde wants to control but Alves postures up.
Alves postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Colde can't do much from the bottom here.
Colde tries to improve position but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Colde can do anything to dispel that myth.
Colde looks winded!
Colde takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Colde is not content to let Alves control the position.
Colde managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Alves.
Alves connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Colde some visible discomfort.
Alves working the ground and pound.

Alves trying to control the position but Colde is working away.
Colde really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alves has control of an arm but Colde manages to advance to Alves's back!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves trying to control the hands but Colde breaks the grip.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves breaks Colde's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Colde not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alves distracts Colde with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Alves postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Colde avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Colde throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Colde looking to control.

Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We've been hearing good reports from Alves's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Alves makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Colde looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alves is one step ahead there.
Colde is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Alves postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Alves with a nice head shot there.
Colde not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves postures up and lands a big shot to Colde's brow.
Alves works over Colde with some ground and pound from guard.
Alves cracks Colde with a solid left hand.
Alves postures up and lands a big shot to Colde's brow.
Alves working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Colde is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Colde is trying to control the position but Alves postures up.
Alves won't allow Colde to sweep him here.
Alves keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Colde's head.
Colde controls Alves momentarily but Alves frees himself.
Colde keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Colde is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Colde manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Colde's guard.

Alves slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Alves is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Colde is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Alves has hold of Colde's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Colde seems comfortable defending it but Alves has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Colde is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Colde is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Alves couldn't care less - he's delighted!
