PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Feodor Shemelianenko (ranked 1148 p4p, 144 weight class) and DJ Augie (ranked 1459 p4p, 179 weight class). Shemelianenko comes into the arena with 2Pac - I'm A Soldier (Echale Mojo Remix) blaring out of the sound system. DJ Augie will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Feodor Shemelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Augie!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shemelianenko throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Augie on the side of the head.
Augie pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Augie connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shemelianenko. Shemelianenko circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Shemelianenko moves in looking to clinch but Augie pushes him off.
The fighters circling - Augie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Shemelianenko misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Augie.
Augie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
As Augie backs away, Shemelianenko returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Augie throws a series of punches but Shemelianenko avoids them all with ease.
A looping hook to the body misses from Shemelianenko. Augie does a little dance to reset his feet.

Augie missing with a left hand there. Shemelianenko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Shemelianenko moves into range and connects with a jab.

Augie throws a hook but Shemelianenko avoids it easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Augie is working for a kimura but Shemelianenko is defending it quite comfortably.
Shemelianenko is not content to let Augie control the position.
Augie is just content to waste time from the top position. Shemelianenko takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

My spies in The Beast inform me that Augie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Augie throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Augie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Shemelianenko sees it coming and defends easily.

After winning the bout, DJ Augie thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
