Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thaenir Holban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Setsuno Hiradama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thaenir Holban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Setsuno Hiradama!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Holban.
Hiradama looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Holban forces Hiradama back against the cage and clinches.
Hiradama misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Holban.
Hiradama jumps guard but Holban turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Hiradama manages to pull guard.
Holban is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hiradama utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Holban wants to pass the guard but Hiradama is keeping the position.
Holban is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Hiradama has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Holban is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hiradama.
The strikes coming from Holban are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Holban tries for a kimura but Hiradama is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Holban throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Holban tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Holban tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Holban sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hiradama is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Hiradama is trying to control Holban's posture but Holban avoids it.

Holban trying to control the position but Hiradama is working away.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sloppy strikes there by Holban.
Holban remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Holban shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hiradama as he jumps to the side.
Hiradama stuffs the takedown.

Holban has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hiradama tries to pull guard but Holban holds him up against the cage and eventually Hiradama drops back down to his feet.

Holban seems keen to control Hiradama's posture.

Holban looking for a guillotine here but Hiradama defends easily.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Holban clinches up with Hiradama and pushes him back against the cage.
Come on Holban - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Holban is struggling to control the position.

Holban is thwarting Hiradama's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holban takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hiradama is breathing heavily.
Hiradama is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Holban tries to score a body lock takedown but Hiradama shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Hiradama tries to pull guard but Holban won't allow it.
Holban has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Holban drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hiradama pulls his leg out and moves away.

Holban will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Hiradama tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Holban defends well and Hiradama ends up having to push Holban into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hiradama stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hiradama wants it to stay on the feet.

Holban is trying to control the action in half guard but Hiradama is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

A clash of legs there as Hiradama blocks the low kick.
Hiradama takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Holban rushes Hiradama and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Hiradama manages to pull guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Holban avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Holban stands and steps away. Hiradama gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thaenir Holban dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Hiradama slaps away a takedown attempt from Holban, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Holban tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Holban shoots for a double leg takedown but Hiradama sprawls well. He's pushed Holban's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Holban looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hiradama is fending him off so far but Holban persists. Nope, Hiradama circles away and we're back to standing.

Hiradama avoids the head kick by Holban.
Hiradama throws out a counter right but Holban avoids it with no problem.
Hiradama fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Holban dodges the punch combination from Hiradama.
Holban half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Holban fails with a takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Hiradama's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Holban moves into the clinch.

Holban breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Holban misses with a head kick.
Holban fails with an attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Holban tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hiradama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hiradama has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hiradama there as he acknowledges the shot.
Thaenir Holban is winning the standup battle so far.

Holban clinches up against the cage.
Hiradama has Holban pressed against the cage, preventing Holban from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hiradama is trying to maintain a safe position but Holban gets an underhook and turns Hiradama into the cage.
Holban wants to break the clinch but can't.
Holban displaying some good clinch control by pressing Hiradama up against the cage.
Holban wants to get back to striking at distance but Hiradama won't allow it.

Holban using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Hiradama has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Holban on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Hiradama is fighting off a takedown attempt but Holban is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hiradama to the mat. Hiradama regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Holban wants to control from the top but Hiradama keeps moving.

Holban stands up from Hiradama's guard - Holban perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hiradama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Holban closes the distance and clinches.
Hiradama's coach down at Hard Knocks Training was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Hiradama's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Hiradama is pressed up against the cage. Holban has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hiradama down to the mat. Hiradama avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hiradama tries to clinch up but Holban circles away and keeps his distance.

Holban is trying to drag Hiradama to the mat but Hiradama just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Holban goes for a takedown attempt but Hiradama pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Holban displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hiradama.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thaenir Holban showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Holban has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
