PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robb Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hummer Valley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallace comes to the cage accompanied by Venus - Theatre of Tragedy. Hummer Valley will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robb Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hummer Valley!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valley manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wallace on his heels. He'll look to pass Wallace's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valley with a flurry of punches that miss.
Valley pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wallace is keeping the position for now.
Wallace wants to stand but Valley is controlling the position.
Wallace looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Wallace wants to stand and escape but Valley is having none of it.
Wallace lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wallace is working Valley over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Wallace keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Valley's head.

Wallace's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Wallace seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Valley for as long as he can get away with.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Valley can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wallace slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Valley has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Wallace is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Wallace tightens his grip and picks Valley up, before dumping him to the ground. Valley manages to land in guard.
Valley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wallace's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wallace lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Wallace slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wallace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wallace is defended easily by Valley.
Valley tries to work over Wallace's front leg with a kick but Wallace checks it.

Valley throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wallace tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Valley is in Wallace's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wallace defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Valley.
Valley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wallace's waist but Wallace gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valley off to one side.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wallace in particular looking to stall.

Wallace looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Valley with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Wallace takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Wallace is stinking the place up with his stalling.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A frustrated look appears on Valley's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Valley wants to take the fight to the mat but Wallace manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Valley is looking for a takedown.
Valley tries to pull guard but Wallace holds him up against the cage and eventually Valley drops back down to his feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hummer Valley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Valley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wallace finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Valley darts in looking for a takedown but Wallace gets double underhooks and turns Valley into the cage.
Wallace tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Valley was well out of range. Poor timing from Wallace.

Wallace fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Valley to the ground. Wallace is now in Valley's guard.
Wallace passes Valley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Robb Wallace is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Wallace content to control rather than advance.
Wallace stops Valley from getting back to his feet.
Wallace perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Wallace prevents Valley from improving his position.
Wallace looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Wallace has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Valley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wallace pinned against the cage. Wallace gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Valley or perhaps it was just good defense by Wallace, which made it look bad.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Valley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wallace but Wallace pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hummer Valley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

and Wallace counters with a nice body kick.

Robb Wallace showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wallace has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Robb Wallace was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
