PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angel Soriano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifton Stanley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Angel Soriano!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Soriano gets the takedown into side control.
Stanley is trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stanley tries to buck Soriano off but Soriano is having none of it.
Soriano advances to mount.

It looks like Soriano might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Stanley wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Soriano has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stanley is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Stanley is wriggling around trying to escape.

Soriano looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Soriano's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Soriano.

Soriano won't let Stanley get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Stanley gets caught napping as Soriano dives in and scores a takedown. Stanley manages to retain guard.

The adventures of Soriano the control monster continue. Boring.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stanley could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Stanley misses with a wild combination.
Stanley fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Stanley works over Soriano's head and body with a nice combination.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Soriano throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stanley was covering up waiting for the punch and Soriano finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Angel Soriano has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stanley is looking to stand up but Soriano isn't so interested in that idea.

Stanley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Soriano is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Soriano must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Soriano gets to his feet - Stanley follows without any prompting.
Stanley misses with the combination.
Soriano is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Soriano avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stanley enables Soriano to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stanley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Soriano is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Angel Soriano showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Stanley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Soriano gets a takedown into half guard.
Stanley is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Soriano's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Soriano's back!
Soriano rolls, trying to escape but Stanley keeps control of the position.

Stanley is looking for the choke from the back position but Soriano is controlling his hands well.
Stanley has the hooks in. Soriano is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Stanley is not going to allow Soriano to sit and survive in this position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Soriano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stanley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Soriano tries to escape but Stanley has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Soriano rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Soriano is looking for a sweep. Stanley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stanley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Stanley not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Stanley wants to get back to his feet.
Soriano is pressing down on Stanley's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Soriano has a closed guard, preventing Stanley from standing up.
Stanley throws a big elbow that misses.

Soriano is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Soriano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Soriano is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Stanley presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Soriano tries to stall but Stanley uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Angel Soriano is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Soriano content to control rather than advance.

I would just about give that final round to Angel Soriano.
I've got Soriano winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
