Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gene Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Val Thurgen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gene Warren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Val Thurgen!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thurgen gets a clinch.
Warren tries to pull guard but Thurgen holds him up against the cage and eventually Warren drops back down to his feet.
Warren slows down the pace here.

Thurgen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Thurgen shoots in but no luck this time.

Thurgen gets a clinch.
Warren jumps guard but Thurgen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Warren tries to pull guard but Thurgen won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gene Warren. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thurgen is looking to sweep but instead, Warren has passed into half guard.
Thurgen wants to control but Warren is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Thurgen tries to roll over but Warren keeps him under control.

Thurgen wants to improve his position but instead Warren has moved into half guard.

Thurgen is looking to escape.

Thurgen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Warren pulls his head out easily.
Thurgen wants to control but Warren is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Thurgen shoots in for a double leg but Warren sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Thurgen connects with a leg kick. Warren looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

and Warren counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Thurgen looks winded!

Thurgen's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Thurgen manages to break the clinch.

Thurgen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Warren circles away quickly and effectively.
Warren tries to counter with a takedown but Thurgen is quick to defend against it.

Warren shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Thurgen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gene Warren will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A head kick misses from Thurgen.
Gene Warren is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thurgen shoots for a double leg takedown but Warren sprawls well. He's pushed Thurgen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Warren tries to keep at a distance but Thurgen has taken the fight into the clinch.
Warren is trying to pull guard but Thurgen has him pressed against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Thurgen - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Thurgen tries to score a body lock takedown but Warren shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Warren is trying to break the clinch but Thurgen is controlling him.

Warren jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Thurgen walks away with a smile on his face. Warren gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Warren.

Warren slaps away a takedown attempt from Thurgen, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Thurgen clinches up against the cage.

Thurgen decides to pull guard.
Thurgen is adopting a defensive guard.
Warren wants to stand but Thurgen is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Thurgen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Warren is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Thurgen.
You can see the frustration on Thurgen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Thurgen takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Warren will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Thurgen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Thurgen is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Warren trying to control the position but Thurgen is working away.
Thurgen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Thurgen is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Warren is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Thurgen wants to hold on but Warren pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Warren tries to control but Thurgen wriggling away.
Thurgen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Val Thurgen will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Thurgen drives through and clinches with Warren against the cage.

Thurgen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Warren to keep the fight standing.

Warren drags the fight down to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thurgen wants to control from the top but Warren keeps moving.
Warren not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Thurgen looking to sit in guard and control but Warren gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Thurgen controls Warren momentarily but Warren frees himself.
Thurgen wants to sweep but no luck.

Thurgen is pulling down on Warren's head to control his posture.
Thurgen wants to control the position but Warren says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Warren wants to stand up but Thurgen is controlling the position.
Thurgen regains full guard. Nicely done.
Thurgen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Thurgen is trying to hold Warren in close to prevent damage but Warren has managed to pass into half guard.
Thurgen tries to roll over but Warren keeps him under control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Thurgen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Thurgen wants to control the action here but instead Warren manages to pass to full mount!
Thurgen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Warren can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Thurgen is looking to escape.
Poor strikes thrown by Warren there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Thurgen is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Thurgen gets back to half guard.
Warren wants to get back to his feet.
Thurgen tries to roll over but Warren keeps him under control.
Thurgen trying to hold on to Warren's head to control him but Warren postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Warren escapes and gets back to his feet.

Thurgen clinches up with Warren and pushes him back against the cage.
Thurgen throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Warren looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Thurgen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gene Warren showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Warren has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
