The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cordero misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cordero will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cordero misses with a few strikes there.
Cordero really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cordero keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Chen pushes Cordero up against the cage in a clinch.

Chen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cordero lands a left and a right that send Chen crashing to the mat, dazed. Cordero thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Shine Chen has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cordero tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Chen is still on wobbly legs! Can Cordero finish him?
Cordero has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Cozad The Island in the buildup to the fight.
Cordero throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Chen counters by moving into the clinch.
Cordero blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Cordero tries to circle away but Chen has him pinned against the cage.
We've been informed that Chen has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Chen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chen seems to have recovered his senses.

Chen shoots in and gets a takedown into Cordero's guard.

Chen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cordero, up you get!

and Chen counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Cordero is breathing heavily.
Chen throws a series of strikes that have Cordero backpedaling.
Cordero is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Chen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chen.
Chen goes for a takedown attempt but Cordero pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Chen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chen in side control, throwing shots but Cordero defends.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Let's hope that Chen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
