Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Piet Van Zyl!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Zyl takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Piet Van Zyl seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Van Zyl changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Van Zyl lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.

Johnson tries to escape but Van Zyl is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Van Zyl stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Van Zyl pushes him off.
A lazy body kick from Johnson

and Van Zyl decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.

Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Van Zyl defends it easily.

Van Zyl wants to stand but Johnson is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Van Zyl looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Johnson!
Johnson is looking to get back to his feet here but Van Zyl is keeping cool and he's managed to take Johnson's back.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Johnson is trying to defend against the choke here but Van Zyl has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Van Zyl Tightens the hold and Johnson taps out furiously! Van Zyl displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
