The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Thornton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carter tries to pass to full mount but Thornton defends it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Thornton sees it coming and defends easily.
Thornton is concentrating on defense, preventing Carter from advancing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter is thwarting Thornton's attempts to control the position.

Carter is working for a kimura but Thornton is defending it quite comfortably.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carter is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Carter lands a nice short elbow.
Carter controlling the pace.

Carter stands up out of the half guard.
Carter connects with a high kick.


It looks like Vicente Thornton has been cut.

Carter has closed the distance and engaged Thornton in a clinch.

Carter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Carter shoots in for a double leg but Thornton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carter misses with a combination

and Thornton counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Carter!

Thornton goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Carter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Thornton but great work by Carter.

Carter decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Carter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Carter manages to break the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thornton.

Carter has closed the distance and engaged Thornton in a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Carter drives through and clinches with Thornton against the cage.

Carter decides to pull guard.

Thornton is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thornton throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Thornton can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carter controls the pace.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Carter dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Vicente Thornton's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Thornton shoots in looking for a takedown but Carter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thornton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Carter lands a brutal head kick. Thornton looks out on his feet and Carter throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
