PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karl Karlsson (ranked 672 p4p, 100 weight class) and Donald Evans (ranked 1494 p4p, 213 weight class). Karlsson comes into the arena with Nemesis by Arch Enemy blaring out of the sound system. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karl Karlsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Donald Evans!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karlsson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Evans defends it nicely.
A little jabbing left from Evans on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Evans misses with a wild body shot.
Karlsson darts in looking for a takedown but Evans gets double underhooks and turns Karlsson into the cage.
Evans lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Karlsson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Karlsson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Evans quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Karlsson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Evans jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Evans scores with a hook.
Evans has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Evans there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Evans lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Evans throws a leg kick but Karlsson sees it coming and moves out of range.
Karlsson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Karlsson shoots in looking for a takedown but Evans manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Karlsson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karl Karlsson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans misses with an uppercut.
Evans keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Evans ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Karlsson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Evans to the mat! Evans manages to get full guard.
Evans has his hands on Karlsson's head, controlling the position.
Karlsson stops Evans from standing up.
Karlsson content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Evans has locked up a guillotine! Evans's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Karlsson is holding on here and Evans must be using up a lot of energy. Karlsson has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Evans gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Donald Evans!
In his post fight interview, Donald Evans started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
