Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asko Asinen (ranked 7147 p4p, 756 weight class) and Alexander Gustafson (ranked 5036 p4p, 626 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Asko Asinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Gustafson!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustafson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Asinen tries to counter by clinching up but Gustafson breaks away and moves out of range.
Gustafson misses with a head kick.
Gustafson throws the kick towards the body but Asinen avoids it.
Gustafson misses with a body punch

and Asinen counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Gustafson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Asinen is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gustafson can't fight it off and eventually Asinen manages to take the fight to the floor. Gustafson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Asinen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Asinen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Asinen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gustafson dives on top into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Asinen holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Asinen is not content to let Gustafson control the position.
Asinen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gustafson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Asinen.
Asinen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gustafson as he jumps to the side.
Asinen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gustafson is fending him off so far but Asinen persists. Nope, Gustafson circles away and we're back to standing.

Asinen shoots in looking for a takedown. Gustafson tries to sprawl out of it but Asinen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gustafson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gustafson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Asinen was well out of range. Poor timing from Gustafson.

Asinen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gustafson sprawls well initially but Asinen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Asinen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gustafson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gustafson has escaped and now he's on top!

Gustafson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Asinen's guard.
Asinen controlling the position for now.
Gustafson is looking to take a break and control but Asinen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gustafson wants to free his trapped foot but Asinen is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alexander Gustafson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Asinen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Asinen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Asinen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gustafson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gustafson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gustafson!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I would just about give that final round to Alexander Gustafson.
