PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Smashum Faster (ranked 1937 p4p, 217 weight class) and Jay Smith (ranked 1813 p4p, 206 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Smashum Faster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jay Smith!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Faster throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Faster moves forwards but Smith connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Faster.
Faster seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Faster gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A jab from Smith finds it's way through Faster's defenses.
Smith slips a jab from Faster.

Smith darts in and clinches Faster up against the cage.
Smith lands a right hand.
A hook to the body from Smith.
Smith lands a left hand.
Faster wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Smith throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Fasters head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith digs a right hand into Faster's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Faster's gas tank.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice body punch from Smith - that landed with a thud.
Smith slows down the pace here.

Smith gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Faster has one foot on Smith's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Jay Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A lazy left from Smith finds it's target.
Smith scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith jabs at Faster's body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Faster.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Faster went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Faster takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Smith lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Smith scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Smith jabs at Faster's body.

Smith drives through with a takedown into Faster's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Smith throwing strikes but missing.
Faster can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.
Smith wants to control from the top but Faster keeps moving.

Faster being controlled here, momentarily.
Faster seems keen to control Smith's posture.
Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Smith stands up over Faster, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Smith throwing strikes from guard but Faster blocks nicely.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Faster gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Faster wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Smith pulls Faster in to control the position.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith seems keen to control Faster's posture.
Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Smith is looking for a triangle but Faster pushes his legs off easily.

Faster avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Smith pulls Faster in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Smith dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Smith lands a really nice looking cross but Faster seems unphased.
Smith dives in and grabs Faster's left leg, looking for a takedown. Faster pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.
Smith lands with a straight right. Faster didn't see that one coming.
Smith throws a body shot but no joy.
A decent looking cross lands there for Smith.
Smith throws a body shot but no joy.
Faster tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Smith's jab looks to have found its range, popping Faster under the eye.
Faster throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Faster keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Faster finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Smith's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Faster falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jay Smith!
A very excited looking Jay Smith made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
