Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Elwood Gross (ranked 25041 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francis Carter (ranked 7309 p4p, 688 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elwood Gross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Francis Carter!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gross is looking to escape.
Carter missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Gross is trying to maintain the position but Carter is very close to passing his half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carter connects with a nice short shot to Gross's temple.
Carter not doing much here.
Gross keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Gross really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter is looking to take a break and control but Gross is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gross wants to control but Carter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gross is positioning himself well to prevent Carter advancing to mount.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carter gets a takedown into half guard.
Carter wants to take a breather but Gross is having none of it.

Carter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Carter is controlling the pace.
Gross controlling the position for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carter swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Carter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gross's guard.
Gross knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.
Gross trying to keep a closed guard but Carter is proving a slippery customer.

Carter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Carter throwing strikes but missing.
Carter trying to control the position from guard on top but Gross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Carter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Francis Carter dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Carter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gross to the ground. Carter is now in Gross's guard.
Carter postures up.
Gross keeping moving, preventing Carter from controlling successfully.
Carter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gross has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Carter is continuing to stall.
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Carter shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gross manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Carter wants to get up but he can't break Gross's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Gross is looking to stand up but Carter isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gross is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gross wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gross pulls Carter in close to prevent any damage.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Carter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carter avoids the head kick by Gross.

Carter darts in and clinches Gross up against the cage.
Carter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Carter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Carter manages to end up in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gross can't do much from the bottom here.
Gross wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Gross throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gross trying his best to control but Carter has mounted him.
Gross avoids a series of strikes thrown by Carter.
Gross blocking the ground and pound.
Carter looking to control but Gross is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Carter wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gross is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gross is squirming around, avoiding Carter's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Francis Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Carter has closed the distance and engaged Gross in a clinch.

Carter has clasped his hands together around Gross's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Gross tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Gross is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Carter gets his way!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Will Carter go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Gross looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Gross really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Carter's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
Carter controls the position.
Carter wants to control but Gross is keeping busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Carter looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Gross taps!
