FSF 3: ScarFace PBP Commentary



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Johns.
Turner moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Turner defending well as Johns loads up on a big left hand.
Turner dips to his left and cracks Johns with an uppercut!
Turner scores with a jab to the head.
Turner stuns Johns with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Turner throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Turner closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Turner bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Turner connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Johns momentarily.
We've been informed that Turner has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johns takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A jab from Turner does it's job there.
Johns scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Johns definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Turner is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Johns had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Johns tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Turner was well out of range. Poor timing from Johns.
Turner throws a hook but Johns avoids it easily.
Johns darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Johns crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Turner - the referee stops the clock and Johns gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Turner. Johns manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

And Turner tries to counter it with a takedown but Johns pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Crunch! Turner slams his shin into Johns's torso.
Johns takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Johns ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Turner moves away.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Johns paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Turner blocks a head kick by Johns.
Turner connects with a good right hand that stumbles Johns. Johns circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Johns swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The fighters circling - Johns throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Johns moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Turner lands with a right hand.
La'Von Johns is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johns misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Turner tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Turner counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Johns on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Johns tries to get out of the position.
Johns looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Turner is looking to advance position but Johns won't allow it.

Johns pushes Turner off looking to stand but Turner dives back in and keeps control.
Well, if Turner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Johns wants to get back to his feet.

Turner looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Johns is looking to escape.
Turner is keen to just control but Johns is a slippery customer.
Johns is trying to stand up here but Turner is controlling him well.
Turner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johns knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Turner passes to full mount!
Johns's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BOOM! Turner connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Turner landing strikes from the mount and Johns is in trouble!
Turner landing punches.
Johns wants to get back to his feet.
Turner with the ground and pound from mount.

Johns is rocked!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turner landing strikes, looking to finish!
Oh Johns is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Turner looking to isolate an arm here. Johns doesn't see it coming and as Turner extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Turner!
