PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Coach Marcelo Bjj (ranked 5190 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Hinton (ranked 16960 p4p, 0 weight class). Marvin Hinton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Coach Marcelo Bjj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marvin Hinton!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hinton stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hinton scores with a jab.
Nice body punch from Hinton.
Nice takedown defense from Bjj. No joy for Hinton on that attempt.
Hinton lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bjj could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hinton scores with a hook to the body. Bjj takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hinton throws a quick inside leg kick.
A good leg kick by Hinton.
Hinton lands a nice hook to Bjj's body. Bjj takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Bjj shoots in looking for a takedown but Hinton manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bjj's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A nice side step and Hinton releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Hinton buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bjj on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
A left lands for Hinton.
Bjj misses with a takedown attempt
and Hinton counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bjj shoots for a double leg takedown but Hinton sprawls well. He's pushed Bjj's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Coach Marcelo Bjj. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hinton connects with a solid leg kick.
Oh Bjj is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Hinton rushes Bjj and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Bjj seems to have got his legs back now.

Hinton manages to break the clinch.

Bjj gets tackled into the cage by Hinton. Hinton maintains the clinch.
Hinton slows down the pace here.

Hinton jumps into guard, dragging Bjj to the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hinton looking for a sweep. Not yet Hinton, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hinton keeping moving, preventing Bjj from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hinton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hinton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hinton has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hinton throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bjj uses it to pass to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bjj tries for a kimura but Hinton is defending well.
Bjj wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hinton keeps working.
Hinton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bjj wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hinton can't do much from the bottom here.
Hinton tries to buck Bjj off but Bjj is having none of it.
Hinton is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
We've been informed that Hinton has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Bjj prevents Hinton from improving his position.
Hinton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Bjj's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Bjj's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hinton is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Bjj. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Bjj trying to control but not successfully.
Bjj is trapped and Hinton is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Hinton is hanging on to Bjj's back as he tries to escape.
Well, with Hinton on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Bjj is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
The referee is taking a good look at Bjj as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Hinton!
Hinton is not going to allow Bjj to sit and survive in this position.
Bjj tries to roll but Hinton sticks to his back.
Bjj just trying to survive but Hinton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Hinton trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Hinton lands with a hammerfist to the side of Bjj's head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bjj tries to escape but Hinton has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marvin Hinton dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hinton closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Hinton content to control rather than advance.
Hinton has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hinton lands a nice short elbow.
Hinton is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Bjj is hurt! He's hurt bad - Hinton fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Bjj from any more punishment! Congratulations to Hinton! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marvin Hinton!
