PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sylvester Ritter (ranked 2251 p4p, 272 weight class) and Zod Wettin (ranked 1492 p4p, 186 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sylvester Ritter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Zod Wettin!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
I was talking to Ritter's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ritter tries to work over Wettin's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Wettin has clasped his hands together around Ritter's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Wettin trying to control the position but Ritter is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ritter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Ritter looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Wettin is not content to let Ritter control the position.
Ritter is thwarting Wettin's attempts to control the position.

Ritter is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Wettin still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Wettin has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ritter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wettin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Ritter holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ritter tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Wettin has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Ritter is desperately trying to improve his position but Wettin has a good base and remains in mount.
Ritter is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Ritter is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ritter sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Wettin throwing shots but Ritter is blocking nicely.
Ritter trying to hold on to Wettin's head to control him but Wettin postures up.
Ritter tries to roll over but Wettin keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wettin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ritter desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wettin in particular looking to stall.
Ritter is looking for a sweep. Wettin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wettin trying to control from half guard but Ritter is working away.
Wettin not doing much here.
Wettin is thwarting Ritter's attempts to control the position.
Wettin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ritter's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ritter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Wettin is working for a submission of some sort.
Ritter is trying to control but can't.
Ritter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wettin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ritter is looking for a sweep. Wettin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wettin controlling the pace.
Ritter is trying to stand back up but Wettin is controlling him

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ritter throws a right and a left that Wettin avoids nicely.
Ritter misses with a body shot.
Ritter throws an overhand right that lands on Wettin's shoulder, as Wettin tries to avoid the shot.

Wettin dives in and scores a takedown into Ritter's guard.
Ritter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wettin slips nicely into half guard.
Wettin is trying to control the action in half guard but Ritter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ritter wants to control but Wettin is keeping busy.
Ritter tries to roll over but Wettin keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Zod Wettin will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ritter jabs Wettin to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Wettin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ritter tries to avoid it but Wettin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ritter to the ground. Ritter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wettin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ritter defends it nicely.
Ritter stuns Wettin with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

A jab-cross combination lands for Ritter and sends Wettin crashing to the mat! Ritter follows him down to the mat - Wettin regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


It looks like Zod Wettin has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wettin tries to get to full guard but Ritter has control of the leg.
Ritter lands a big elbow - Wettin is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Ritter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sylvester Ritter!
