Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Francisco Salgado (ranked 1579 p4p, 192 weight class) and Russell Wallace (ranked 4681 p4p, 526 weight class). Wallace has chosen Dust in the Wind as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Francisco Salgado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Russell Wallace!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Wallace lands a nice looking body kick.
Salgado misses with a two punch combination.
Salgado looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Salgado has Wallace up against the cage in a clinch.
Salgado lands a shoulder strike.

Wallace lands a takedown into guard.
Wallace trying to control the position from guard on top but Salgado is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Salgado wants to sweep here but Wallace controlling him for the moment.
Wallace wants to control from the top but Salgado keeps moving.
Wallace is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Salgado has his foot on Wallace's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wallace works his way back into a safe position though.

Wallace takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wallace tries to pass the half guard into mount. Salgado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
My spies in Spar Bros inform me that Wallace has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wallace slows the pace down in half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Salgado shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wallace defends it nicely.
Wallace takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Salgado moves out of range as Wallace throws a body kick.
Salgado went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Wallace moves into the clinch successfully.
Wallace has Salgado pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Salgado manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Wallace's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Salgado lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Wallace drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Wallace lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Salgado throws a punch but it's blocked by Wallace.
A head punch on the inside from Salgado fails to land.

Salgado's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Wallace is looking to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wallace lands a head kick!
Wallace lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Wallace shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wallace was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Francisco Salgado will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Salgado throws a body punch but Wallace moves out of range.
Wallace doesn't manage to clinch there - Salgado circles away.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Wallace lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Salgado has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Salgado and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Salgado swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Wallace closes the distance and clinches.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Salgado just misses with a elbow thrown towards Wallace's brow.

Salgado breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wallace tries to work over Salgado's front leg with a kick but Salgado checks it.
Wallace tries to clinch but Salgado moves out of range.
The fighters circle momentarily. Salgado darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Salgado scores with a jab to the head.
Wallace slips under a jab from Salgado.

Wallace rushes Salgado and presses him up against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salgado escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Salgado closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Wallace's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Salgado loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Salgado is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wallace is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wallace has escaped and now he's on top!


Salgado throws his legs up looking for a submission but Wallace uses it to pass to side control.

Wallace is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Salgado is surviving well by controlling Wallace's body position as best he can.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salgado is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wallace wants to control the pace but Salgado is squirming around nicely.
Wallace tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Wallace avoids the attempt from Salgado to control.

Salgado tries to buck Wallace off but he can't manage it.

Salgado is looking to improve his position but Wallace isn't that keen on the idea.

Wallace wants the takedown. Salgado is fighting it off but Wallace persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Salgado's guard against the cage.

The referee asks Wallace politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Wallace prefers to stall for the moment though.
