PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rick Cricket (ranked 2232 p4p, 330 weight class) and Don T. Bill (ranked 3670 p4p, 493 weight class). Don T. Bill struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Cricket!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don T. Bill!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cricket avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Bill gets a double leg takedown into Cricket's guard.
Cricket wants to stand but Bill is controlling the position.
Bill trying to control but Cricket is working from the bottom.
Bill throws a big elbow that misses.
Cricket wants to get back to his feet but Bill is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cricket trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cricket has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Bill has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Bill blocks a body shot from Cricket.
Cricket cracks Bill with a nice body shot.
Cricket lands a hook that snaps the head of Bill backwards.
Bill tries to throw a body punch but Cricket avoids it by throwing Bill back against the cage.

Bill misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Nice body punch from Cricket - that landed with a thud.
Bill looks winded!

Cricket pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick from Cricket lands but Bill takes it in his stride.


It looks like Don T. Bill has been cut.
Bill avoids a kick to the body.
Cricket swats away the attempt to clinch by Bill.
Cricket scores with a punch to the head.

Bill ducks straight into an uppercut from Cricket and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Bill manages to regain guard straight away.


Bill is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bill looking for a sweep. Not yet Bill, not yet.
Cricket passes Bill's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cricket in particular looking to stall.
Cricket passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bill!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cricket wants to control the pace but Bill is squirming around nicely.
Cricket fails to move to back control.
Bill takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bill tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cricket looking to control and managing it successfully.
Bill is desperately trying to improve his position but Cricket has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cricket takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Cricket landing strikes, looking to finish!
Cricket trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bill tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cricket content just to control the position here.
Bill can't escape the position.
Cricket raining down hammerfists from mount.
Cricket putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Bill has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Cricket's lack of action.

Bill is looking for a sweep. Cricket is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cricket lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Bill is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cricket's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cricket's back!
Bill missing with strikes.
Cricket trying to get back to his feet but Bill is in full control for now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bill scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Cricket is looking for a way out.
Cricket is trying to stand back up.
Bill trying to control momentarily.

Bill looking for the RNC.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Cricket dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Don T. Bill's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cricket connects with the punch.
Cricket throws a sloppy head kick and Bill moves out of range easily.
Cricket lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Bill missing with a left hand there. Cricket was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Cricket misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Danga de danga de dang - Cricket scores with a four punch combination!
Bill throws a head kick but Cricket moves out of range.
Bill uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cricket.

Cricket throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Bill tumbling to the canvas!
Bill is still in real trouble! Can Cricket finish him?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cricket trying to control but Bill is working from the bottom.
Bill seems to have recovered his senses.

Bill is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cricket defends well.

Bill throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Cricket preventing the sweep.

Bill is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cricket wants to control from the top but Bill keeps moving.
Cricket pushes down on Bill's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Cricket is trying to control. Bill wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cricket tries to stand but can't do so whilst Bill controls his leg.

Cricket is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Bill tries to roll over but Cricket keeps him under control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Cricket stalling.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cricket misses with a looping left.
Cricket throws a right hand that Bill ducks under and follows up with a left that Bill also avoids with ease.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cricket lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Bill has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Bill and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Cricket tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bill throws the left hand but Cricket avoids the punch easily.
Bill cracks Cricket with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Rick Cricket is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cricket lands a high kick to the side of Bill's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Cricket dives into guard, looking to finish.
Cricket stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bill swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cricket won't allow Bill to sweep him here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bill is on top in guard.

Cricket seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Bill tries to free his leg and advance position but Cricket is retaining full guard.

Bill content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Bill throws a big right hand that misses.
Cricket wants to get back to his feet but Bill is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cricket is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bill can do to turn this around?

Bill with a nice head shot there.
Cricket wants to stand up but Bill is controlling him.
Cricket is wriggling around but Bill manages to pass to half guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

A slow jab from Bill misses its intended target.
Bill goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bill looks to land a right hand but Cricket moved out of range.
Cricket throws a head kick that misses.
Bill throws a jab but it's blocked by Cricket.
Cricket pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bill back to the cage. Cricket follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

and Bill counters with a straight right hand.
Cricket moves out of range as Bill throws a body kick.
Bill ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Cricket throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bill.
Cricket slips under a jab from Bill.
Cricket misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bill with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cricket to score with a decent uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bill misses with a straight right.
Bill waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cricket.
Bill throws a body punch but Cricket moves out of range.

Bill throws a jab but it's blocked by Cricket.
Cricket throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rick Cricket is winning the standup battle so far.
Cricket's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Cricket duly obliges.
Cricket throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
letting Bill counter with a right hand.
Bill slips a jab from Cricket.
Cricket smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Bill looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Bill throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bill takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bill takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Bill wants to clinch up but Cricket keeps it at a distance.
Bill fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cricket manages to avoid it.
Cricket pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cricket fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cricket throws a sloppy head kick and Bill moves out of range easily.
Rick Cricket is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bill throws a looping overhand right but Cricket ducks down to avoid it.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Cricket checks a leg kick.

A combination from Cricket does no damage.
A swing and a miss from Cricket.
Cricket keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rick Cricket seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bill scores with a jab to the jaw.
Cricket lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bill circles away quickly and effectively.
Bill doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Bill will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cricket seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Cricket lands a jab to Bill's midsection.
Cricket pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bill tries to clinch there but Cricket circles away.

Cricket lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bill circles away quickly and effectively.

Cricket is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Cricket ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Bill misses with a body shot.
A shot to the liver by Bill. Beautiful body shot.
Cricket connects with a nice looking jab.

Cricket cracks Bill with an uppercut from hell and Bill crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Cricket's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bill is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cricket doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cricket manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cricket lands a nice short elbow.
Don T. Bill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Cricket has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
