PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Nordquist (ranked 1330 p4p, 155 weight class) and Chosu McGrady (ranked 1461 p4p, 169 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Nordquist!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chosu McGrady!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGrady connects with a nice looking jab.

It looks like John Nordquist has been cut.
McGrady throws a lazy uppercut

and Nordquist holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
McGrady jumps guard but Nordquist stands there with McGrady around his waist. McGrady gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McGrady is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Nordquist to keep the fight standing.
McGrady is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Nordquist is defending well.
John Nordquist has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chosu McGrady.

Nordquist has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGrady wants to control from the top but Nordquist keeps moving.
Nordquist throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

McGrady must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

McGrady keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nordquist's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nordquist is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nordquist is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McGrady defends well.

Nordquist escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McGrady gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
McGrady distracts Nordquist with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

McGrady throws a strike but Nordquist rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Nordquist is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
McGrady lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Nordquist closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McGrady's guard.

McGrady wants to get back to his feet but Nordquist is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

McGrady scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGrady throws a left and a right that both miss

and Nordquist counters by clinching up.
McGrady is still on wobbly legs! Can Nordquist finish him?
McGrady is trying to pull guard but Nordquist turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Nordquist lands a shoulder strike.
Nordquist keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McGrady's efforts to push away.
McGrady is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Nordquist gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, McGrady regains guard.
Nordquist gets to his feet and stands over McGrady, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! McGrady felt that one! Nordquist unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save McGrady from any more punishment!
