The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles tries to clinch but Fairchild is having none of it.
Fairchild smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

It looks like Lenny Charles has been cut.
Charles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A combination from Fairchild does no damage.
Charles went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Charles fails with a takedown attempt.
Charles takes a body punch but keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Charles manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fairchild on his heels. He'll look to pass Fairchild's guard now, I'm sure.

Fairchild is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Charles looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Fairchild keeps control of Charles as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Fairchild jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Charles walks away with a smile on his face. Fairchild gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fairchild enables Charles to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fairchild manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Fairchild manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Charles can't get the takedown.
Charles wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lenny Charles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Charles has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Fairchild ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fairchild no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Charles is fighting to break Fairchild's control of his arms but Fairchild is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Fairchild has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Charles has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Fairchild goes for a takedown in the clinch but Charles prevents it.

Fairchild pulls guard effortlessly.

Fairchild pushes Charles off and scrambles back to his feet.

Fairchild dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Charles goes for a double leg but Fairchild avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fairchild continues to drive forward.
Charles takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Charles shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Fairchild counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Joe Fairchild seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fairchild sends Charles crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Fairchild is motioning to the referee to let Charles up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
