PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rock Allen (ranked 7562 p4p, 738 weight class) and Tyron Woodley (ranked 5930 p4p, 668 weight class). Tyron Woodley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rock Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyron Woodley!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodley throws an off balance right hand
and Allen counters with a straight right hand.
A solid leg kick lands there for Woodley.
Woodley swinging wildly here.
Allen looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Allen is looking to slow Woodley down with leg kicks.
Woodley throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Allen takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Woodley shoots in and bounces Allen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Allen wants to stand and escape but Woodley is having none of it.
Allen striking off his back but it's not causing Woodley any problems.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Allen looking for a sweep. Not yet Allen, not yet.
Woodley looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Woodley is continuing to stall.
Woodley's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Allen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Woodley defends it easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Woodley fails to land with a series of punches.
Woodley lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Woodley lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Allen circles away quickly and effectively.
Woodley misses with a wild body shot.
Woodley connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Allen tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Woodley is able to avoid easily.

Woodley lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Woodley misses with a low kick.
Woodley scores with a nice right hand.
Woodley scores with a one two! Allen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Rock Allen has been cut.
Woodley lands a nice leg kick that just misses Allen's sensitive parts.
Woodley throws a body punch but Allen moves out of range.
As Woodley looks to move away, Allen throws a big counter combo but Woodley just gets out of the way.
Woodley fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Allen connects with a solid leg kick.
Woodley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Allen.
Woodley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Allen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Allen tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Woodley manages to circle out of the way.
Crunch! Woodley slams his shin into Allen's torso.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Allen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Woodley lands a right hand that snaps the head of Allen backwards.

Allen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Woodley gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Allen is trying to force a seperation but Woodley has the dominant position.

Woodley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Allen drives through and clinches with Woodley against the cage.
Woodley creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Woodley pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Allen is trying to pull guard but Woodley has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rock Allen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Allen tightens his grip and picks Woodley up, before dumping him to the ground. Woodley manages to land in guard.

Woodley has his feet on Allen's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Allen checks a leg kick nicely.
Woodley dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Allen. That did some damage!
Woodley misses with an uppercut. Allen saw that one coming.
Woodley lands a nice looking body shot.

Allen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Woodley, pushing him back against the cage.

Woodley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Allen or perhaps it was just good defense by Woodley, which made it look bad.
Allen scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd cheers as Woodley lands an impressive looking overhand right. Allen doesn't seem phased though.
Allen lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Woodley backs up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Woodley swings for the body but Allen moves out of range.
Allen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Woodley feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Allens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Allen moves into the clinch.

Woodley breaks from the clinch.
Woodley scores with a sloppy right hand. Allen should have avoided that one.
Rock Allen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Woodley looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Woodley is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woodley scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Woodley trying to control the pace.
Woodley prevents Allen from standing back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Woodley misses with the combination.

Allen gets a clinch.
Allen blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Woodley gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Allen.

Tyron Woodley seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Woodley throws a looping overhand right but Allen ducks down to avoid it.
Allen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Woodley misses with a body shot.
Allen changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Woodley lands a lovely overhand right.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Allen is defended easily by Woodley.
Allen takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A shot to the liver by Woodley. Beautiful body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyron Woodley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Rock Allen's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Allen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Woodley throws a series of punches but Allen avoids them all with ease.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Woodley!


Allen is rocked!
Woodley cracks Allen with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Allen tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Woodley pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Allen is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tyron Woodley!
