Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Malingo (ranked 1330 p4p, 136 weight class) and Lyman Kissell (ranked 1804 p4p, 195 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eddie Malingo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyman Kissell!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kissell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Malingo was covering up waiting for the punch and Kissell finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Malingo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kissell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Malingo looking for a sweep. Not yet Malingo, not yet.

Malingo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Malingo looking for a guillotine here but Kissell defends easily.
Kissell with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kissell trying to control but Malingo is working from the bottom.

Malingo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Malingo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kissell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Malingo works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kissell lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Malingo has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kissell is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Malingo.

Kissell in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Kissell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malingo keeps working.

Kissell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Malingo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kissell tries for a kimura but Malingo is defending well.
Kissell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Malingo can't do much from the bottom here.

Kissell is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Malingo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Malingo is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kissell's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Malingo is trying to maintain the position but Kissell is very close to passing his half guard.
Kissell lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kissell takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kissell might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Malingo haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kissell darts in looking for a takedown but Malingo gets double underhooks and turns Kissell into the cage.
Kissell tests Malingo's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kissell throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Malingo tries to counter with a takedown but Kissell is quick to defend against it.
Malingo misses with a straight left.
Kissell shoots in for a takedown but Malingo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Malingo half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Kissell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kissell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Malingo's guard.
Malingo wants to get back to full guard.

Kissell throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kissell working over Malingo with some ground and pound. Malingo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Malingo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kissell is working away from the top position though.

Kissell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Malingo is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kissell jumps into side control!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kissell lands a nice short elbow.
Kissell wants to pass to mount but Malingo is defending the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kissell is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kissell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Malingo keeping moving, preventing Kissell from controlling successfully.
Malingo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Kissell jabs Malingo right on the nose. Malingo blinks but takes it well.

Kissell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kissell wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Malingo, who protects the arm well.
Malingo can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kissell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Malingo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Malingo manages to get back to half guard.

Kissell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Malingo defends it well.
Kissell throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Kissell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Malingo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kissell looking to control but Malingo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Eddie Malingo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Malingo wants to control but Kissell is having none of it.
Kissell sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Let's hope that Kissell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kissell wants to control the pace but Malingo is squirming around nicely.
Malingo is trying to escape the mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kissell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Malingo is looking to escape.

Lyman Kissell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kissell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
